View Full Version : Cheapest decent car
I'm 29 in a few weeks and 1.2's are still £500+ quid (a W reg 1.6 zafira was over a grand  ) one none fault crash which barely makes a difference on confused.com quotes, literally a couple quid at most, 3 NCB drive for a living and the car would only be used on weekends for social use (obviously when off work too)
I want a cheap car to use while I go for my class 2 licence and to see me through the start of possibly a new job, what is generally the cheaper end of insurance? Doesn't have to be Vauxhall.
Over 500 for a 1.2 at 29? Summat aint right there.i dont even pay that for two seperate policies on both dailys
Tell me about it! Only thing I can put it down to is lack of many NCB and maybe postcode, but its not a bad area.
Something wrong there. I had no no claims and dr10 and payed less than a grand for my 1.6 zaf.

I'm 27 with 10 points and two years no claims I've insured my beemer for 400 quid
Legal & General were the cheapest on confused at approx 480 when i phoned up it went to over 900, local place was over 1000.
29 next month 0 points (yet, waiting too see if i was busted doing 57 in a 50 sneaky bastard camera van 100 yrds inside 50 zone round a bend) 1 none fault crash 1.3cdti corsa c was over 500 on confused!
Basically i want a 500 car to get around til i get a new job, out of peoples experience and knowledge what is usually cheapest?

I'd be ringing companies rather than using comparison sites. Also are its cheaper to just go third party on budget bangers lol
Gen 6 Celica ST/GTs are cheap as chips at the mo. Insurance shouldn't be too bad either, the 1.8 ST is pretty easy to cover

Even the gt4 is cheap to insure I'm only £288 a year. That's with only 2 year ncb as my other no claims are on my daily.

mk1 Focus's are still worth the money and reliable, don't get the 1.4 petrol as they're cack.

If you are looking for a really really low insurance group car you need a 2004 1.0 12v Corsa Expression which is the lowest group as its in group 1 ! Not fast but should give you the cheapest insurance quote available.
Forget about a Meriva VXR - they are group 24 and a VXR8 is maxed out at group 50 !

This is true, I don't think I've ever paid more than £500 to insure mine, and that includes buying it when I was 22! Now it only costs me about £150 with business use :)
Not quite cheap enough to buy though (not sure I'd trust the ~£1500 ones on ebay), and not cheap to run either lol

96 quid a year, classic policy with mirrored NCB from my daily comprehensive policy.
That's on my Rev 2 MR2 Turbo.
Haha I doubt many of these cars are sub £500, 1.0 Corsa C sounds like the best bet for now but I doubt I'll find a decent-ish one for £500.
Just done a quote on confused (I know we've already established comparison websites are a bit crap) on a 2002 1.0 Corsa C (NC51 HKK if anyone wants to compare)
£450 with and without the none fault crash. Would phone a couple companys up tomorrow but ran up a £15 bill trying to sort npower out.
Need a car :(
Ohhhhhhhhh reaally? (http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/Cars-/9801/i.html?_from=R40&_sac=1&_nkw=celica&_dcat=18290&rt=nc&_mPrRngCbx=1&_udlo&_udhi=500)
Avoid the G7s, the G6 STs are what you want for that money.

The 1.0 are 3 cylinder engines so the cam chain can sound like a sewing machine, make sure it's been changed and regularly serviced..... If so you should be okay.
