Hi all,

I'm fitting my 4 branch manifold again. When I took it off I noticed black marks where it was leaking slightly. I have fitted another exhaust gasket to compensate.

Tightening up the bottom nuts was a right nightmare as they are behind the pipes where I can't get a socket or even a ratchet spanner in. How do you guys do it? Any tricks of the trade?

I use a flex head ratchet spanner or jack the car up onto axle stands and go from underneath if it's really tight :)

Short open ended spanner, flanged nuts can catch on manifold pipe, may need standard nuts on some of the studs(note the crimp nuts will need spannering all the way down, where as standard nuts will spin down with fingers, could fit spring washer to aid retention.

Been there and done it!!

A lot of tiny turns with a small open end spanner and plenty of patience

Different nuts? Like stainless? Spring washers the washers with the cut in?

Yes, they look like one coil of a spring, some places refer to them as Shake proof washer.

As for doing them up, I go with a shortish Ring spanner, the bottom 4 are a right pain although the one under the pipe out to the Rad is the worst one.
