What is your guys' opinion on lowering clamps, that attach to the springs and compress them down, instead of buying lowering springs (maybe you're on a budget, etc.)
Questionable performance and ride quality?

Lethal!
I figured as much. A friend of mine told me to get some to lower my car in the back, but I argued against it and voted for quality lowering springs. He even suggested cutting/heating, but I told him it's a stupid idea.
Your friend is a retard! Just so you know

Oh trust me, I know. He's like, "so you don't spend a ton of money on your car" as if I'm gonna throw away my Nova. Yeah, it may be a piece of crap, but it's my piece of crap and I love the coal rolling, snail powered little shite.
Dangerous! decent second hand lowering springs can be purchased and fitted for peanuts.
why bother even having springs at all? lol

cut springs are awful lol they made my old estate ride like like a bag of bricks every little bump in the road was like being kicked in the spine

Deadly
I figured as much. About as smart as ziptying a spring, or fixing a broken spring with hose clamps.

I intend on getting a set, or getting a set of low end coil overs with yellow springs, but I'm probably gonna get better brakes first.

Wouldn't it be really rough just with shocks?

I keep telling them that, but they never listen. They don't even have a license yet, let alone a car. They'll learn when they do it to their cars. They're mostly Honda lovers, so what do they know about cars.
i'm going to ask you a serious question. do you want it to look cool when it is parked or do you want it to handle well???
if cool when parked, chop the fcuk out of the springs, clamp them down or whatever................
if handle, then i'd say that there's probably a lot of fairly ropey roads on malta as well as some good smooth tarmac... and for spirited driving i'd say don't go below -60mm. also remember to trim the bump rubbers on the front struts.. if you can, get some shorter rear dampers, or they will bottom out..

Cut springs are awesome, I chopped the ones on my k10 micra in half and apart from them falling out when I jacked it up they where awesome :)

"Fairly ropey roads and some good smooth tarmac" in Malta? Are you high? Other than pot holes you can bury a person in, there isn't much smooth roads. The only smooth roads we have are (sadly) where "important" people drive through. Example, when the Pope came here, they re-surfaced all the roads he'd be driving over. But they forgot all about the others, but that's okay. And nah, I'd only lower it from the back. It's low at the front from the weight of the engine.

I just don't think it's a good idea in terms of safety and handling
