View Full Version : Short throw gear linkage

Just wondering if there would be any interest in a while u wait mod for the above?

I have already done 1 - tried to fit a "proper manufactured" quikshift part to a veccy. Ended up modding the original which did the job fine. Involves lengthening 1 part by cutting and welding a piece in. Takes about an hour or so to remove, change and re-install. All vaux linkages are similar in design

Was thinking about ?50 or so to include uprated/re-newed parts for the central pivot. Still got to sort some details.

Any views :?:

cheers CP

When I got mine back together i'd take you up on that CP. One thing that needs improving on mine is the gear change.

could you do a rose jointed version ??

CP

TBH I'm not sure that it is really necessary. The rose joints do wear - the std ones dont tend to so much plus rose joints arent cheap.

OK I will work on the beta version when I have time and check it all works 100%

this is true, its abt ?35 a lot of the aftermarket ones dont even fit properly the vectra one wasnt that easy, was much better to mod the exisiting bracket.

I think CP's price will include the removal of your old one, modding it and reinstalling it till your happy, well worth the price imo :)

I think ?50 quid to turn up - hand him the keys, have a cuppa tea and a biscuit while he mods the linkage is quite reasonable really - so you better throw in the tea and biscuits too CP, otherwise people might not be bothered and think its too expensive

FYI

I worked with CP on the Vectra linkage. It was for a friend who had purchased one of the cheaper linkages on the market, and there was no way on this planet that it was ever going to fit. It was a pile of crap, although the company did give a refund. Doesn't cover the P&P though!

CP modified the standard item instead. It didn't take too long, most time spent accurately measuring the dimensions. I would definately recommend getting him to make one for you as the fitting and setting up of the cheap shite out there will be a nightmare.

Just to clarify:
1 Remove existing linkage
2 Measure cut and extend existing linkage
3 Machine and fit Aluminium bushes to replace existing 1's
4 Re-assemble.
5 Re- calibrate gear change and check out

While u wait (1- 2hrs ?)

?50

Anyone who wants to DIY- I will in due course provide some details.

There is going to a period of testing. I have the bushes fitted to my car.
Even as we speak my able assistant ( the brains behind the job  ) is evaluating it. We are gonna track day it to make sure it can take the stick first.

I will also be looking for a volunteer to try out on FOC but not just yet.
I have some other matters to attend to first

CP - sounds very good, I'd be interested in the possibilty of getting one on the rally car after the quaife box goes in if you think it will be up to it??
