Hi guys,

Possibly a bit of a strange question and really rather specific, But does anyone know what the differences are, if any, between the F10 and F13 gearbox's? Specifically with reference to the 5th gear?

I am trying to get a better 5th gear ratio into my F13WR355 gearbox to use for my classic mini's engine conversion.
From what information I can gather the F10 gearboxes were all fitted with a 0.707ratio 5th gear which would make a nice improvement on my f13's current 0.761ratio 5th gear on the motorway.

I just want to know really if it would be a straight swap over or not. Or if I would be able to use some addition parts out of the F10 gearbox to get it to work. If small changes were required I have access to any equipment I need to make the changes, provided it doesn't involve putting metal back onto the gear.

Information would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Chris.

Straight swap. The f10 and f13 are identical as far as the gear bits inside are concerned

f10 bellhousing won't fit on an e16/c14/16se block. the starter is further out from the crank, thus the larger flywheel.

the f10/13 mucky bits are pretty much the same, as long as you have one made after '85

What do you want to achieve? An F13WR with a 3.55:1 final drive is not the best combination, what was the box out of? A final drive swap or an F13CR would be a better upgrade. F10WR and F13WR fifth gear would normally be the same ratio.

I have swapped the fifth gear in my F10 SCCR box as it ran a standard wide ratio fifth which was too big a jump from the straight cut fourth gear. I now run an F13CR fifth and it was an easy swap which can be done in situ if the end cover can be removed in your application.

I am trying to achieve the lowest possible revs in 5th gear.

The engine is fitted to a classic mini, and as such has 10inch wheels. Im trying to get the motorway cruising revs back down to a reasonable level to make traveling to shows more comfortable. I find the F13WR box is perfect for my application and it drives really well. Out on track I have never used 5th gear as yet so dont see that fitting this ratio 5th gear would have any effect, and if it did i feel it would be a worth while trade off since the car is mostly used on the road.

What was the ratio which you removed from your F13? Mine is currently a 0.761:1 (35/46)

You need F13WR ECO gearbox, what has 3,35 final, and 0,707 5. gear.

that would be horrible to actually drive though lol

if you can find one. Much easier said than done.
According to Opel.info the 5th gear in the f10 gearbox is the .707 ratio, which is what I've just bought.
I'm pretty happy with my 355 final drive which I have currently.
