I have two f20 boxes that I got cheap, but the history is unknown. I don't want to eventually fit one to find that it's fooked. I have average mechanical skills but never stripped a box or anything. Is it something that I could do or specialist job
Professional rebuild won't be cheap. I think the best way is to fit and try unfortunately. I believe it'd be a full strip down to inspect the synchros?
It's straight forward but you need a couple of different size pullers and some Snap ring pliers (not circlip pliers) to do it right.
If the f20's have had any proper use the synchros for 3rd and 4th will be cracked or broken. New replacements are nearly impossible to source :(

At the price I picked them up I guess I'll be unlucky lol. Thanks both for the reply
Easy to change in a nova with the lower arm and tie bar off. Fit it and see...

Paul is a good guy, rebuilt my F20 with a new gear cluster from a Daewoo, £250.
But as Mr Benn says, fit them and see, worst case it's 2-3 hours to change it out!!

Cheers Stuart shame about the distance. I'm thinking of going down the route Benn did with a 4x4 final gear and poss a atb. As it's gonna be for a let. So it may need stripping any way.
