Hi all I have bought what I believe is a safety devices bolt in roll cage. I was told it was omp but looks like an sd. Has anyone else got one as the trial fit looks off but may just be mehttp://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/04/17/9299e96e4025c4ae9a1339622d99de15.jpg

Looks about 6 inches too low

The rear legs meet the rear wheel wells in about the right place but the rest of it looks like it needs raising up...quite considerably

Never liked cages that come down in front of the dash

Please dont fit this in your car.it will do more harm than good

Why do you say that Andy? Waste of £250??

A roll cage is designed to fit as tight as possible in the monocoque.
This reduces the crumple in a roll.
Its also designed to either sit ontop on the sill box, inside or tight up to it.

I have just got a 6point omp cage and it's not the same and it also sits very tight upto the roof

Andy

Thats so small its probably for a mini or summat similar.

As long as the width is good I would just extend the uprights to get the cage to fit as tight to the shell as possible mate

Would that not make it dangerous?? I am just going to buy new going forward every time I buy used I end up funked and out of pocket

Andy

Extending it is dangerous yes.you cant add length to any bars without seriously compromising strength

Only way to raise would be box the sills and attach cage to that. But it does look a little low

Andy

The boxes would have to be substantial! Its a mile off.And then the rear would be off the wheel well too so wouldnt work.

Id say it was to narrow aswell tbh. Have you no comeback? as I'm pretty sure that ain't a nova cage and if it is the fit is truly appalling.

I may try and speak to the seller as I bought it as legit. When I buy another bolt in or weld in?

Andy

depends what youre using it for.
if its for looks why not buy some waste pipe from b and q and spray? lol
If its for serious use weld in every time.

What are you wanting a cage for? Weld in cages are serious kit and serious money and quite frankly a lot of work still to be done with them for the money you pay (personally I'd expect all the pieces to fit together like a jigsaw for the money they are)

Bolt in cages still require a fair bit of work to fit, and unfortunately as you have found out the hard way you don't always know what youre buying second hand

Motorsport - weld in
Show - no cage

Only my opinion of course.

My car will be running a let and I am looking to do track days and the drag strip. It will be there to add strength and keep the shell stiff and also add protection.
