Z16xe sounds like a noisy diesel?

Hi all just got home to find my partners car sounding rough to say the least sounds like a dry top end the engine had a oil and filter change about 2k ago I read that it could be a inlet manifold leak? I've just sprayed deodorant all over the inlet manifold while it was running and it did not knock so am I right in saying it's not a leak?
Any help would be much appreciated

I have changed a few water pumps on the z16 Causing a rattle through the engine

No joy with this the hydraulic lifters followers what ever you want to call them can they be stripped cleaned and put back in or do they wear out and need replacing ? Looking at stripping it tomorrow to fix the problem?

Well fixed this today gave her some fresh oil and kicked its teeth in for a hour sweet as a nut now hahah
