Hi wondering if someone can help,
changed my xe engine into a let, using a donor engine, starts fine and runs fine until it gets up to running temp, then starts misfiring and hesitating , also when upto temp its ticking over from 800-1200ish and cutting out when stopping at junctions
when driving at 40mph u can fell the car going faster and slower when just sat at 40
changed:
coil/ dis
fuel pump
fuel relay
plugs
leads
came with yellow injectors and standard Ecu
hope someone had same problem and easy fix
only fault code is 61 fuel tank vent valve, as don't have one yet

Did you try a coolant temp sensor mate?

Maddukeman
26-02-15, 08:48 PM
No but is the one that run fine on xe, do have the one that came with let somwere , worth a try u think

Scottcooper85
26-02-15, 09:26 PM
Maybe, I'd try every sensor you have lying around lol

26-02-15, 10:32 PM
Get a tank vent valve asap as it needs to be plugged in to keep ecu happy. Remember when i unplugged mine and engine cut out. It doesnt need to piped in just the sensor needs to be. Could also be the afm playing up. Check lambda sensor aswell.

Maddukeman
26-02-15, 10:53 PM
Yer will get one, forgot it's had a new lambda on it as well cheers

Maddukeman
27-02-15, 09:51 PM
Changed cts : same
changed icv : same but was ticking over higher,
anyone no what the valve is before the fuel pump, seams abit noisy when running , as if it's restricting fuel
Car runs fine, then all of a sudden after about 5 mins when it's ticking over and get to temp something seams to just kick in, and it not happy about it, so starts messing up

torquey
27-02-15, 11:07 PM
Have you checked afm? Cts wiring?

Maddukeman
27-02-15, 11:36 PM
No not yet, could it be tested with an xe afm , I got one somewhere if there same plugs, may have to remove loom and give it the once over

torquey
28-02-15, 08:31 AM
Not sure on xe afm. Could try wouldnt of thought it would work.

Benn
28-02-15, 08:33 AM

It's smooths the flow of fuel out.

What fuel pressure reg are you using?

Maddukeman
28-02-15, 09:29 AM
Don't think there is a stamp on it , the on that was on xe says 3 bar on it , will look at swapping them over tonight , cheers

Benn
28-02-15, 11:22 AM
Most lets are 2.5.

Maddukeman
28-02-15, 11:31 AM
0, I'll try it tonight and see if any change , blood think , need to fix before I regret the hole thing :tard:

Maddukeman
01-03-15, 06:22 PM
Tried xe afm , didn't like it, was spluttering straightaway, could still faulty afm, will try 3bar reg later on

torquey
01-03-15, 07:00 PM
Didnt think it would like it lol. Have you checked knock and icv plugs?

Maddukeman
01-03-15, 08:37 PM
:d No It didnt , yer check at plugs there all good, loom is un cut a1 condition, think it's a fuel prob that starts play up for some reason, hoping it's the regulator , will prob be tomorrow night when get time to change , other than that I'll be weighing it in

Maddukeman
02-03-15, 05:10 PM
Changed reg, it was 3bar one on let rail, put xe one on ( no marks on it ) still just the same

torquey
02-03-15, 06:52 PM
Could be a knackered injector! Get them tested and see from there.

Benn
02-03-15, 07:07 PM
XE afm is all wrong for it.

Try unplugging the afm while its running see what happen...

Maddukeman
02-03-15, 07:14 PM
Afm unplugged makes it cut out, yer I put let one back on,do u think if I run xe cream injectors it will run enough to see still misfire

Scottcooper85
02-03-15, 08:04 PM
Got some spare blue injectors here if you want them to try mate?

Maddukeman
02-03-15, 08:13 PM
Sound bud , I'll see what the cream ones do, tonight and let u no cheers

Maddukeman
02-03-15, 09:45 PM
Are lets yellow as standard , tried cream & blue and was running crap, see what fitting tank vent valve tomorrow will do, at least it will clear the eml

torquey
02-03-15, 10:15 PM
Yes standard let are yellows. Have you checked the coil??

Benn
02-03-15, 10:25 PM
Is it the only code stored? (eml wise)

Maddukeman
02-03-15, 10:29 PM
Cheers, yer Iv change the coil and dizy , just same , yer that is only code bud, it's drivable , when it's misfiring , but wants to cutout at every junction, and only plays up when it get to a certain temp

Benn
03-03-15, 08:10 AM
Rota arm ok?
Cts is ok?

Maddukeman
03-03-15, 08:31 AM
Yer both rota arms Iv got are good, xe engine was running fine, changed cts to xe one , still same , got another off Scott cooper last night to check another one, will try get some more injectors and afm when I find some to test it, off to cruffs at weekend so wife wants all my money, so can't buy any bits at min,

Any one using them blue 470cc injectors on eBay, (Bosch replacements) would they run ok on standard let, or would u stick with yellows

Benn
03-03-15, 12:30 PM
Std let, std injectors for me. Just get them propley cleaned by the guy on ebay.

Maddukeman
03-03-15, 12:33 PM
Ok I'll have look for him , cheers

Maddukeman
03-03-15, 05:54 PM
Fitted tank vent valve, eml clear now, still running crap, when it's running it haunting up and down ,as if it's ****ed ,
find it strange that it only starts as the temp starts to show on digi dash

Maddukeman

There are two wires hanging out of Ecu, would they norm go to a power wheel ?, there not joined together

torquey
03-03-15, 08:01 PM
Could be open the ecu up and see what chips are in it.

Maddukeman
03-03-15, 08:56 PM
Opened Ecu and there are 2 eds Motorsport phase 2 chips, could this be my problem ?

torquey
03-03-15, 09:32 PM
Could be are they genuine chips?

Maddukeman
03-03-15, 09:37 PM
I don't no bud
one says eds Motorsport phase 2 boden and has a fancy glass eye in middle,
other one says eds motorsport phase 2 deckel , looks like it said 1 on it and been changed to 2

Maddukeman
03-03-15, 09:38 PM
No it don't say 1 under it think it's a 2

torquey
03-03-15, 10:46 PM
That means bottom and top. Would look at the wires coming out of the ecu and maybe see if you can get a switch for it.

Maddukeman
03-03-15, 10:53 PM
Sound, would that just be an " on/off switch " ? should I have other engine mods so the chips work or should they run ok on standard fuel reg and yellows, all Iv changed from standard is new wossner Pistons, hoping is could be y I'm having problems and I can get sorted for pvs

torquey
03-03-15, 11:20 PM
Its for switchable boost settings. Iam running phase 2 and have bigger cooler hybrid turbo saab reds not needed really. Pretty suee Eds chips are programmed to run on standard injectors. Iam using a webber fuel reg on mine.

Maddukeman
03-03-15, 11:26 PM
Cheers for your help, the ones on eBay say 3.5bar fuel, would that mean mine needs turning up or its just recommended , just trying to work out if it's the chips causing the misfiring/ bad idle and cutting out when stoping, all going well maybe I can find a Ecu or standard chips to check

torquey
04-03-15, 07:33 AM
Pretty sure lets run 3 bar on yellows. Even on phase 2 chips. When using reds they flow more so need a adjustable reg.

Maddukeman
04-03-15, 11:29 AM
Hopefully getting standard Ecu and yellows, to try them tonight , fingers crossed

Benn
04-03-15, 10:13 PM

Correct.

If your using a ph2 ecu then you'll need to run correct fuel pressure. Which is 3 with the pipe off and blocked.

Maddukeman
04-03-15, 10:26 PM
Borrowing a standard Ecu so will see how she go's , other than that going to get injectors tested and cleaned then prob try get a afm

Maddukeman
16-03-15, 09:44 PM
Replaced Old Ecu which had a peace inside that looked burnt on the board, with a nice one with no probs, still got the same problems when engine when itwarms up abit , think need to try getting injectors cleaned, then only afm left I think, would think these two would be faulty from start, but maybe not , been looking at loom and can't see any thing wrong with it

w_wall_2001
17-03-15, 02:45 PM
on mine many moons ago, it used to play up and cut out at running temos and only restart after it cooled, turned out to be a crank sensor that was suffering heat soak but not damaged enough to trigger the eml, i founf out by changing literally every sensor. maybe worth a look

Will

Maddukeman
17-03-15, 03:00 PM
:), cheers did try a cranksensor, but god knows could of been another crap one, going to try borrow a afm then take loom off and go through it with a tester at both ends, bloody thing !

17-03-15, 03:13 PM
Know the feeling pal mine is doin my head in too.

Maddukeman
17-03-15, 03:18 PM

Scottcooper85
18-03-15, 07:01 AM
You should all meet up and swap engine parts until someone gets a runner lol

Maddukeman
18-03-15, 07:17 AM

Knowing my luck they would all blow up lol

Maddukeman
22-03-15, 11:03 PM
Had loom off tonight, found 5-6 wires melted together in it near the plug into the Ecu, fixed all them and tested all ends , think all is well on wires but still running crap after 5mins , removed plugs and looks abit wet on all piston tops and new plugs are black, :(

Maddukeman
23-03-15, 05:26 PM
Just compression tested and all came out at 178 - 180 psi

Benn
23-03-15, 06:00 PM
If the plugs look dirty changed them. Could have killed on if the broken wires where to them.

Maddukeman
23-03-15, 09:32 PM
Just checked timing and moved exhaust cam forward one tooth as it looked back slightly and it runs a lot better but now looks forward slightly ,no more hesitating or misfiring , well happy .
still cutting out at junctions from high speed, but can work with that , going to check if it xe or let inlet cam, is there a noticable diffrance , I did check numbers with my xe cam and were different but is there another way ?

Benn
23-03-15, 09:37 PM
You have to lay them next to each other i think. To look at the lobes.

Maddukeman
23-03-15, 09:40 PM
Sound , didn't fancy taking it out but needs must , at least should make pvs

Benn
23-03-15, 09:45 PM
Running a xe cam tho, you should use an adjustable pulley...

Maddukeman
23-03-15, 10:07 PM
Thanks, hopeing its a let one, just wanted all standard for now

Maddukeman
23-03-15, 10:08 PM
Can u still get icv new any one no ?

Cheers bud think best to get one, was thinking my cutting out could be bump valve, it s single spring type, should I get a double spring on or is it safe to run without ?

blue_peg_16v
24-03-15, 10:28 AM
I dnot even run a dump valve

Maddukeman
24-03-15, 10:36 AM
And no standard dv, will try tonight , fingers crossed

torquey
24-03-15, 11:27 AM
Lets need a twin piston mate due to the afm.

Maddukeman
24-03-15, 11:34 AM
Sound , would rather have on than not run anything , will test tonight without and look at getting twin one cheers

Maddukeman
24-03-15, 09:19 PM
Removed dump valve and blanked it off and no more cutting out , runs like a dream, just need to make tires last now;)

torquey
24-03-15, 09:37 PM
Lets dont like single piston dump valves lol. Least its sorted. Just need to sort mine now lol.

Maddukeman
24-03-15, 09:42 PM
Wish I could help, been scratching my head for 2 month and was bloody timing out :tard: just glad it running now I can put back together to a reasonable standard , think I'll leave the fpr I used to blank the DV hole off :), bet Im the only one with that mod

torquey
24-03-15, 10:05 PM
Hopefully get there in the end lol.

blue_peg_16v
28-03-15, 11:02 PM
Timing was slightly out on mine too lol also changed cts plugs leads dizzy cap and rotor arm runs a dream now but after giving it a test clutch is now slipping lol

Maddukeman
28-03-15, 11:08 PM
lol, did think mine slipped in 5th abit but maybe it me not used to a turbo car, will get another when I strip it for paint in winter, if I can make it last, need mot now, bloody time flys by when u havin problem's
