View Full Version : Handbreak cable question
Hi guys my gsi has the astra gte rear disk conversion and im looking to replace a few parts.
First question what handbreak cable does this setup use nova or astra ?
Second Im not sure what its called but its the lever part inside the disk that the cable pulls on to apply the handbreak as mine are rusted to say the least and can you still buy them ?
Cheers for any help guys Rich

Nova long cavalier 1.6 estate short part number on the one I have for my dr is fbk1302
Cheers bud so its a nova right hand cable an a cav estate for the left. Im guessing any motor factors will sell them
Yes, Nova big, Cav little. And yes all motorfactors should have/be able to get.
I have just measured the short cable an it's coming up 870mm long over all. The cav estate left side ( short ) ones I can find are saying 850 so is my cable not cav or something else ?
cheers for any help
Back in the day I used the standard nova cables, didn't know back then there was an easier option
Sorry it should be a MK2 Cav cable.
But if yours are longer then i guess not right. Well does it fit?
I'm sure the one i use is 845mm long.
I have looked up the cable lengths for nova hatch an there is 3 lengths one being 870 so I'm guessing that's what I have.
Hi benn yes my set up works well. If your using a cav cable do you still use the tube thing that the cables use to meet up an run through ? If that makes sense
im only in need a some cables for my nova. do I need this one ?

Hi guys I need some help with this
i have found a new passenger side cable the right length so that's sorted.
The problem is the driver side long cable ,I have a new one that matches at 1400 long but doesn't because from the eyelet end to the nut that sits it the adjusting tube is 600 mm the old one is 400 mm
any ideas the new cable is first-line number fkb 1030
cheers Rich
The longer cable goes to the passenger side and the short to the drivers side. Just in cause, sure it made a diff when i fitted it.
Am I the only one that pikey'd both my handbrake cables together with cable clamps?

Yes...
Cheers Ben that wasn't the problem, turned out it was the wrong cable in the right bag. Quick trip to the motor factors on the way home sorted it out lol
