View Full Version : Blowers with no firewall, cabin ventilation

Thinking about putting a standard blower setup back in my Nova, to provide cool air into the cabin

I no longer have a firewall, so will this be safe enough? Should I look to blank off the blower from the engine somehow, or try and duct it from the scuttle area?

Also looking at putting some ventilation holes in the rear to aid air flow through the cabin if anyone has some good ideas, where to put holes in the rear window, quarters etc.

Why wouldn't it be safe? I have this sort of set up and its fine.

Figured the bay is quite a smelly warm place and the vent will be sucking in the warm engine air rather than fresh air from the scuttle. Isn't that what the firewall was there for?

It'll be tres stinky lol

Figured it would, but it's either this, a roof scoop or a window net so I can open my window fully on track (with additional vents in the rear to stop my rear screen buggering off)

If you ever want to do MSA events then all holes in the bulkhead will have to be sealed to prevent smoke, flames, hot fluids getting into the passenger compartment

A perspective I'd not thought of actually... Thanks

Window net sounds like a winner

Hmmm, I see the logic, but i don't notice anything...

Could you not box it in and put ducking to to the scuttle vents? be a bit fresher...

Loads of places do window vents, for rear engines or rads, just turn them the other way...

Yeah any kind of ducting would work; just a case of where you wanna take it from.

I run a cut bulkhead & blower (which I couldn't live without on a daily); the secret is to have it on only when moving ~ if you're in traffic then you wont want it!

As said above box the blower in
then maybe make an air feed to the blower like the old style piper cross air filters that had the air feed in the bumper

Mine worked fine

I'm building a rally car now without a firewall and as stated here with MSA regs I can't have any openings in the bulkhead. I'm planning on running a fresh air feed from the inner wing (behind the splash guard).

Cheers guys, I'm going to fit some window nets and rear vents and run with the windows down and see how I get on before going down the original blower route

Van has no firewall and original blower and I've never found it a problem

I would create a "mini bulkhead" around the heater that seals it from the engine bay and only allows it to suck in from the scuttle panel - ie a U shape panel to enclose the heater on 3 sides with the 4th side being the existing rear part of the bulkhead.

That way its MSA legal (and safer - which is the main reason for the rule in the first place), gives clearance for the bodies / carbs etc.

However, its its cool air you want (rather than the heater as such), Id either fit a roof vent and/or polycarb windows with scoops around the sliders to channel air into the car.

Will see how I get on with the window nets Paul, they seem the best balance between trackday safety, utilising existing airflow and "undoing" the changes for road use :) Just need to find some suitable vents for the rear screen

Ive got some you can borrow to try that idea if you like...
