I just gave my engine a full service including the cambelt and fanbelt but the engine sounds whiney. It is a 12nz so the cambelt is on a self tensioner so it shouldn't be that?

Are these engines whiney anyway, it is years since I last ran one or have I done something wrong?

Video of the noise would be good, if you didn't replace the water pump my money would be on that

Probably tensioned the alt belt too tight

It is the altenator, which is a shame as it looks pretty new. I assume eventually the bearing will cease and I will just have to replace the altenator?

Providing the belt is the correct tension, the noisy alternator will probably be fine for many many miles to come. As long as you can live with the noise and it isnt too excessive just leave it.

At least you know where the noise is coming from now.

That's great, I can hardly hear it round town anyway so I can live with that.
