Evening all. I was replacing sensor sender and thermostat today but ran into problems when the end of the sender sheared off....
Ez outs not cutting it so want to tap it out - anyone know the diameter and pitch?
You can buy thermostat kits from the motor factors that has the housing built into it. And I think that incorporates the threaded holes.
As above, just buy the whole housing - they're about £12

The housing sits above the cast that the temp sensor and temp sender sit in. I have all three...

Is the temp sender needed? Could I fashion a reading from the sensor? Currently thinking I could block up hole as I am struggling to find right size tap....

I think the xe uses the standard GM sensor which apeard to be 12x1.5mm. Iam out buying pants so I cant check for sure.

Awesome link thanks merit lover - the sender is smaller than the sensor so will poke around the site you linked :)

are you talking about the ECU sensor or the one for the gauge?

The one with the single wire for the gauge mate
No it's not really needed, you could fit it elsewhere or just risk not having a gauge. You'll find a second hand lower thermostat housing for sale really easy though so it's not even worth trying to fix. PM 8valve-craig I bet he can sort you out.

ok I thought you meant the ecu temp sensor. yes as above. does not affect the running of the engine.

Indeed, didn't realise that it was a separate lower housing also, so apologies to the above who replied earlier. Will source a lower housing and see how hard it is to swap :) Not a great deal of room unless I start to remove panels etc
