^ Sorry. I have no spark on my nova saloon, with no warning it would not start. Done all the easy stuff, put a charge on battery,Made sure it had fuel, then check for spark there was nothing tried another good plug no joy. OK so i then tried inside my dizzy all seems to be fine contacts all good so i bought a brand new coil. As above i have fitted it but still no spark. I have put new earth leads on engine to be sure..Changed all spade connections but still no go. At the moment as cold as it is i am chasing a black wire i have not checked...IT goes up my pasenger inner wing and into my dash area. MK2 Nova Saloon 1.6 8v Fitted. I will fire some pictures up if this will help. Would this be ignition live.

Are you saying that because no one replied to your post?

The problem was in your question.
You didn't state where the connections were on the 4spades on the coil, or if it had been running properly in the first place.

it wasnt so much a question, more a list of words.
its like saying
"my engine wont start. It has some spark plugs, some hoses and some wires. This is pretty normal right?"

Sorry guys my Grammer is shocking. I have dyslexia so I find it hard. I to have a look back 3 or 4 times.

i could not find were the coil got its feed from. to make sure the coil had power.

early dizzy setups were notorious for the coil packing up. it would be fine on the 12v side, and would show a sperk with a plug out, but simply not have the power to do it inside the cylinder. if you have new plugs, and leads & the leads are all connected correctly (there are some ends that aren't right and don't electrically connect), then the coil is the main culprit.

Cheers guys. I have fitted a brand new coil, and fitted new dizzy off a running Astra this morning still no spark. Would a direct live to the coil hurt it? SO fed up.

according to haynes, the black is ign +ve, and goes to contact no. 15
the red also goes to 15 and is connected to the dizzy,
the brown should be connected to no.1 & also goes to the dizzy
then there should be a rev counter wire (if fitted) that is usually green & also goes to no. 1

connection 15 is on the left, and connection 1 is on the right

I pretty stuck now, are there any relays for it? I am lost. cheers for the help buddy

Would a 12v from battery kill it??

mowgli
01-02-15, 02:21 PM
no, there is no relay.

a 12v from the battery to the left connection (15) would work.

basically, your choices are:

the new coil is shot.
the new coil isn't wired up right
the ht leads aren't working
there is some other fault that would take some investigating.

is the ign +ve working ok? there is a fuse (no.18) but it is also connected to quite a few other things.
if the ign+ve is ok, then the focus moves to the coil & its wiring. if this is ok, then you must look at the dizzy to see if it is triggering the spark ok.
these are all checks that can be done with a battery, some wire & a volt meter. if the dizzy is triggering the spart, then you need to look at ht leads, cap, rotor arm etc.
failing that you need to look at earths, battery voltage, cam timing, ign timing.

I am presuming that the coil is functioning and the wiring is correct..........

My 1.3SR experienced the six prong module in the distributor failing twice, car was running perfectly before instant failure.

Early distributors had 6 prongs, later 4, located within the distributor head.

This module tells the coil when to fire, hence if it fails there goes your spark.

Hope it helps...

Yes i no the module i have bought a new dizzy off running car. he was a good chap tho told me any problems take it back.
