20XE cylinder head coolant ways blanking

So when replacing the standard 20XE inlet with an aftermarket item, these generally do away with the coolant pipes coming off the inlet (to the water pump and the header tank via the throttle body)

Assume this is perfectly safe to do, seeing as a proper QED Jenvey DTH setup does it this way? Just run an S shaped hose from the water pump to the water bar and don't bother with the little one?

I can foresee the big one being difficult to maintain, but would there be any benefit in tapping in a union to run the little one to the header tank still?

Use a decent manifold with an elbow and nothing gets blanked off.

And if there's not one on the shelf, is it worth having it custom made to retain it or not?

Cheers, you're saying that elbow is actually a different part that attaches to the manifold? If so that could work.

Yes. All depends on your bodies though of course. Some have it cast in which is great, but generally only the DCOE style have that for some reason. If you are on indivudal tapers you need the extra bits.

Unfortunately I've got some cheap and cheerful bike carbs arriving later this week to play with until I go down the ITB route, so I'm thinking more along the lines of what can be done with off the shelf or custom manifolds for those.

Cut down stock manifold with some porting ftw you cheap skate. This will stop you fretting about the coolant and you can use your uber expensive silicon 3-way pipe.

I'm like a disappointed Dad that you didn't take the ITB route :(

Which pic? The custom manifold looks lovely but I have a spare XE inlet I might chop down to see if that'll work.

This looks suitable, blank off the injector holes and tap one for a brake servo take off :) And retain the 3 way cooling

That's what I was going to do ^^^

i had a I talked with them at bogg's about blocking the water ways up on mine whilst I was there but he advised against it on a car for road use and Thought if I blocked the larger one it would reduce water flow around that side of the head and with the top one gone it leaves pressure or trapped air in the head with no route of escape. Here's mine...

i got them to supply choke and throttle cables too to save messing around. :)

Thats the only bit I'm going to properly figure out when it's on the car. I don't think I'm going to fit a brass reducer though. I think 3 way is 28mm and the outlet in bb manifold is 22mm so I'm hoping to reduce it down 28x22 by soldering some plumbing fittings and then using 22mm silicone hose. It's going to be a bit trial and error with fittings I think.
