Hey folks I have been toying with the idea of spraying my spare clear rear light completely red

This is just to try for a change as i get bored easily and like to have different options.

I have seen it done once or twice and they look very close to a factory red finish.

Whats the best way of doing this?

Do i buy a light tinting spray from ebay something like that or do i need to
get them sprayed at a bodyshop and laquered?

any advice much appreciated.

Thanks

Use the specific paint, usual body paint will be too dense & just look awful.
I've heard of people mixing regular car paint with a lot of laquer to make it more opaque, probably what tinting spray is anyway.

Euro cluster painted with tinted laquer on the lower section

Tint spray then lots of cutting compound and polish and the likes to get it nice and shiny and uniform

Id be trying to red tint the orange on some Euro clusters tbh. Probably look better than red tinted clears.

Iirc you can get transparent red (deffo knows theres black) on most paint sceams at a bodyshop. Sure PPG make it. So you use that and then lacquer it....

Or use House of Kolor Candy red paint... Only £100 for a tiny tin. I made these years ago. Went off them quick.

/\ Doing the surround/edge parts in Red looks terrible imo. Keep them black.

Ah I remember euro lenses back in the day lol

Buy some old rears and make your own full red rears, use a heat gun to release the individual lenses.

I'm sure Vlietje used to sell something similar to Joff but could be wrong as it was a bit back.

They are no good as the fog and reverse are on the wrong side.
Only way round it is a red filter or red bulb on the reverse light.

I did as Benn says. I masked areas off, and used red tint spray.

In 15 years ive used a fog light once.

Plus led bulbs are so cheap and awesome now.

Doesn't matter if you use it or not, it would fail an MOT with the fog light on the left.

Would it? I thought as long as it had one it was ok?

A single rear fog light is fine but it has to be positioned on the offside of the vehicle(or central iirc). Reverse light does not matter as it is not testable.

Good info, didnt know it had to be center or o/s.
