crossovers directly through headunit output

is it ok to run component crossovers straight from the headunit ?

my headunits a 50w x 4 output

from what ive read online, people say its best to use and amp, but the RMS on the particular speakers im looking at are 50w anyway, same as headunit output, so would it make any difference ?

I can't see any harm in doing so... The overall volume will be a shade lower than without the crossover
