So after selling one of the best novas I've ever owned back in may I decided to buy another project to sit beside my other projects ( maybe one day I'll get one built )

If anyone knows details on running gear and setup from this let me know, it would help me save some time in building it back up.

So far I know it was XE onto a T9 box with english axle, im thinking a RS2000 one piece prop was probably used but wondered if it needs shortened?

Front end was likely capri uprights with insets with coilover conversion rather than the fixed mk1/2 escort stuff, mk2 escort steering rack and column with green TRE's to suit the different threads and most likely I'll be using adjustable bottom arms etc.

Panel wise in not doing much, just throwing on the crap i have lying around for now.

Thanks for that chief,

XE on throttle bodies and omex/dta and a lsd in the axle, just for fun and trackdays etc, will be making it legal for the road too

One of tge things im needing to know is if a rwd exhaust manifold from the xe into a mk2 escort would fit or if the one Austin used was a custom made job

Yeah I was talking to sturge about it, he says it was very tail happy lol, but with modern day setup equipment and machining it should be easy to sort it out a bit better, iirc it was built about 12-14 years ago!

Besides this is just for fun so tail happy is precisely what I want

That's what in hoping for bazza, wanting about 200 ish bhp and see how it goes, the idea is that if i want more power I could convert the XE to turbo and upgrade the box and axle,

If it fails as a rwd id just fit a YBT and mt75 with a cut down atlas axle, means reworking the front end a bit but meh, How hard could that be?

Defo no show car, just using pov spec bumpers too, I don't see any point in paying good money for gsi bumpers and a full respray when im probably going to fcuk it into a tyre barrier backwards after going through a gravel trap lol

Im game for a laugh david lol,

Chrissy nailen is giving my 20XE a refresh and have spoken to philip about the inlet side of things, so just spreading the cost out for this, it's buying the mk2 escort bits thats going to cost me :-/

The thing that done it for me was that it kept its original track width, so despite the modifications its still a normal looking nova,,, ish

Amazed this bounced around like it did when it went up for sale. Granted it's a lot of work but its the ultimate rwd nova shell that still looks like one.

Jealous of you getting to build it up. If its using standard ish stuff up front and back it can only be a case of geometry to get it driving nice?

Naaa to heavy for very little gain over the XE,, the only ford engine id fit would be a YBT to go 4x4 as it would be easier to fit the sierra alloy crossmember,

Yeah pretty much mate, there a good garage that sets up drift cars and such with all the proper kit to dial it in, also AG motorsport aint far away either and they seem to set up a close to 1000bhp focus pretty well lol

Cool!
Something different :)

Just the axle casing which is still 5 linked in, its been made to suit the shell so wouldn't have been worth removing as it probably wouldn't have been much use in anything else.
I just need to measure how wide it is to see if i can buy half shafts or if i need them made

Wow blast from my past

Any information on this would be appreciated lol

So have had my early 20XE rebuilt with fresh rings and shells, obviously has the scalloped crank and forged pistons so should be a strong engine,
Also thinking of using a RX8 six speed gearbox rather than an ancient type 9, thanks to Alex D for the heads up ( basically I'm copying him )

Also had a coil pack head on it and the oil passage sleeved in the head too,

Eventually going to put bodies on it but the sport has the demand of my wallet just now.

Some comments in this thread sadden me tbh. The guy built this up on his driveway & features some excellent engineering so show a little respect to a machine that in no way deserves to be how it is now.

I bet with the appropriate development time and a little budget, it would handle better than any FWD C20XE.

Have you considered using the running gear from an S2000?

Austin not really around now days , from what I can remember mate the prop was maded by Austin him self , think the reason he took it off the road was it done the box type 9 at pvs 2008 , mk2 escort steering colum and rack , think front shocks were Capri set up, turned in to coil overs by him self , I will see if I can get ahold of him for ya in the week .

The guy is extremely talented, as above was built on a drive way , just look how he figured out how to get pick up on the dizzy, I remember back 2005 ish he took me out in it wow .

As as for a drive train I would possibly look in to a Toyota starlet rear , possibly use a t5 box some how or look at how much work is involved in use in a m3 six speed box like the drifting boys do on the 1jz and 2jz

good luck with with this build I will be keeping a eye on this

Everyone is entitled to their opinion I guess.

I'm not going to bother looking at other setups, the cost and time involved to change the full rear end is something that would kill this build before it even starts for me.

I've looking at using group 4 escort front end bits, that's where the money will be spent, rough guide is about 1800 quid in suspension lol

I guess the biggest benefits for me is that the hard work is all been done and that newer and more specialist parts are now available off the shelf, garages with more advanced geometry measuring setups are more accessible than 10 years ago too so with all that in mind my focus is on suspension and handling more than engine and transmission right now.

If I didn't have the Sport build going on just now I could plough money into this but this one has to play second fiddle for now.
