my passenger footwells soaking wet.

before i go over the top... and tear every surrounding panel off to try and find the culprit, is there any usual suspects for this area to look for first ?

being winter. damp and cold, i guess im probably gonna have to pull the carpet out to dry it wont i ? (indoor job, for several days)

bloody 80's leaky vauxhalls

Plenty of suggestions in this thread regarding places to look for leaks:

cheers south :thumb:

i think ill start with the door seal rubber, as it seems most likely given the wet area, and then ill move onto the floorpan gromits.
can wing mirror blanks on the outside leak ?

the carpets gotta come out anyhow, so i think ill just tear every out on the passenger side, and sit inside the car, with a torch, one day when its pissing it down, to track the source.

that under-padding stuff holds a hell of alot of water doesnt it.

i think my problem is one of the passenger floor gromits, under the sound deadening, but not 100% sure yet.

ill leave it stripped out while it gets used, so i can see where its source of origin is.

will re-seal the gromit(s), top & bottom if necessary.

Do you have the cover fitted over the blower motor?

When i bought my gsi it didnt have one, and my passenger carpet was absolutely swimming. Turned out it was coming in through the blower motor.

The heater matrix was leaking on mine and filling the footwell

ive had one in the past that had cover issues. it was fitted, but it was cracked and split all over, and it let in way more water than i thought. the excessive amount of wet killed the motor shortly after too !

have had that before on a couple other cars as well. its easier to spot as your coolant level continually drops, and you get a telltale coloured water pooling by your feet. mine was mega obvious towards the end, as once the car started to heat up from cold, it would below steam/smoke out the dash. serious amounts too ! ... couldnt see anything within seconds.

That's what killed my GSi. poorly fitted Wind screen.

before you go to far, check that the bulkhead is solid around the bonnet hinges.

Mine had a small split in seam sealer in the battery tray near the inner wing drain hole and a rotted splash guard in the arch

^ i need to check these next, as its not coming through the floor as i first thought.

i cant see it coming from above either, it apears to be coming in from the side, of the inner wing.

worse case scenario, ill pull the entire dash out, and sit there for 3 hours with a torch lol
