engine removal 05 astra

Hi I am new here and looking for some advise.
I have an 05 plate 1.6 astra engine type is Z16exp petrol.
Can anybody tel me if I can remove the engine from the gearbox and take it out the top, I am aware that I could drop the sub frame but I have limited space and doing the job ouside.

You can but for the work involved its senseless not to remove from bottom.especially when to seperate gearbox and put away from engine the subframe has to be at least half undone drivers side and fully undone passenger side
Much much easier to unbolt the mounts linkage and steering rack and struts etc and drop the whole lot.
