View Full Version : Genuine question...
Not being funny when I ask this, but why do there seem to be a LOT of nice Novas in Scotland?
Not just on this site. For sale ads everywhere online, cars recently acquired by some end up in Scotland.
Is the retro car scene rife up there? I'm on the casual look out for one to buy but it doesn't help when I'm almost as far away as you can get being close to Brighton on the South coast.
Because when youre looking to buy cars are always miles away.
when youre not, theyre on ya doorstep lol

I find most users on here are further north than me so is the case for me too
ive always headed south to buy cars, mostly because cars up here tend to rot faster so easier to find a good condition shell by travelling. obviously a lot more cars in england aswell since theres so many more people staying there so got more choice than only buying locally.
as for retro car scene i dont see much evidence near me. i do know theres a lot of older cars in mint condition about though, within a mile of my house i know of cossies, escorts, old golfs, minis, e-types, triumphs, mgs, chevettes, mantas etc all in garages but most dont see the road, some ive never actually seen driven and only know from being customers of my work.
novas i think ive only seen maybe a dozen or so on the road driving in the last 8 or 9 years in glasgow but ive seen many times that in storage or as projects.
The cars I'd love to have an opportunity to own appear to be in Scotland. (Not sure who's they are off the top of my head).
I dont buy cars they are all crap lol

Nova's are everywhere, The only way to tick all of the boxes is to build your own.

Quite surprised that you're finding most the good ones up here as 5 months of the year the roads are gritted!

Hardest thing nowadays is building your own especially sourcing new panels, rebuilds end up costing a hell of a lot unless you're totally dedicated.
Most prices for decent Novas are getting higher but the Scots and Irish are recognising decent builds that have had money thown at them so are will to pay for them rather than build and source things.

Most Novas I like are in your neck of the woods... Well yours and Yellowpegs lol
I found the exact opposite when I was looking for a car earlier this year. Everything decent was way down South so ended up with a shell which I bought local-ish. Theirs a lot of nice Nova's in Scotland but not many ever for sale!

If I want a car just go get it regardless of location up, down makes no difference to me handy that I'm in the middle I suppose but these days if I want a project I just go to one I have already I've got cars from London, Eastbourne, Portsmouth, Swindon,Newcastle, Carmarthen, Kent, even the Netherlands lol o Glasgow and Dunfermline also if your wiling to travel you get the bargains

I live in Northern Ireland and have collected a nova in Hale in Cornwall ,one in Wales, one in the Scottish Borders and 2 from the midlands, its the price of the ferry that's the killer.

I've no issue with travelling and I'd travel to Scotland if I was seriously buying one but as I'm only casually looking, I'd prefer to be local. More for the fact of being able to have a nosey around it and with my very limited mechanical knowledge and what to look for. If I can stumble across a cheap one here, great. If next year I can definitely put decent money aside, I'd be happy to travel.
incidentaly, the car from the Netherlands... How did you go about re-registering over here and what costs can be expected?
Yours looks sensible though... Bloody nice and I'm jealous tbh ;)
Every time i think i'm done spending money on it there it goes and bites me in the ass again, fingers crossed though cos this summer all i did was put petrol in it :)

I wasn't even looking for a new Nova, just happened to have a quick search on Ebay to laugh at the prices. Spotted a Red SRi/GSi in North Walsham but didn't get chance to go and have a look at it. So thought it wasn't meant to be then the Sting pop'd up in Lowestoft.
There are a few nice Nova's kicking around in the East.
I'm after either a GTE/ GSI or at least an original looking one with a bit more oomph.

First time was shÃ*tter yeah, second one that was stolen was just more of an annoyance really.
I didn't even bother claiming on my insurance for the white one.

Didn't realise you had two stolen, I remember the white one in the papers. What was the other one then?
