View Full Version : F10 gearbox BHP tolerance
What sort of power can a F10cr take and be reliable?
Thinking of buying a brand new one but when I fit the turbo stuff I'm hoping for 140bhp
Will it explode? lol
Have loads of used F13's, better off using them?

I dont think there is an F10CR box- its an F10WR box (unless theres some new model fitted with a different box?)

not BHP but lb/ft. 100
I reckon it'll be alright with the extra torque, use good quality gearbox oil.
The F13 has a larger bellhousing & clutch which is what copes with the extra torque I'd imagine.
the f13 can cope with 140hp. you would need to use the f10 flywheel & clutch but it all lines up fine

Edd.
I used an F10 on my 1.0 turbo (150 lb/ft of torque) and it never gave me any issues.

Its n'm not of/ft
anyway, I think that's just bull shizzle.
the f10 and f13 share internals down to the bearing so you'll be fine IMHO.
This always makes me laugh.what do people think, that the higher the f number the stronger the material used?
Theyre just ratios.Thats all.
i just needed some clarification
didnt think a F13 was suddendly going to survive being strapped F1 engine lol
People on the ovals use f13s with xe's.or at least they used to anyway

If you have a good F13 just use that and change the final drive.
I have a spare 3.94:1 CWP to make the SRi box like mine.
It is only the casings.that are different, everything else is the same.
Think I like the idea of bolting a brand new box on

i thought that myself, from what other people have said, but im just stupid lol
any idea why the smaller ones usually poo themselves more often ? ... is it the smaller clutch size ?
i like the sound of a 20xe with an F13C 4.53. that would be pretty wild
I've only seen one small block box fail and that was 5th gear of all things.
other reasons the boxes wear fast is the poor syncro rings on 3rd and 4th but that goes for f10,13,15,17,18,20's all crack under hard use and make it feel a bit rubbish lol
i think poor maintenance & the fact most of us are using 25 year old boxes takes a few out too...
Yep.People think box oil doesnt need changing.Iv even heard people be surprised to know the gearbox needs oil hahaha
I ran a F20 with no oil for 7k once lol

ive got manual (green stuff) in mine.
is the automatic (red stuff) better ?
doesnt like going into 2nd gear when its cold either
The proper oil is red.
Atf works just as well though.

i bought manual fluid - ep 80w90 (i wasnt expecting it to be green, but used it anyway, as it said it was compatible)
what types best to use ? .. for F13
im guessing fully syth. is better than mineral too, like engine oil is
i'll just get the tin opener......., do you like worms?????. lol

It's usually 5th that suffers first, I guess the particular gear (cog) is farthest out & at risk of poor lubrication combined with encountering the highest torque.

Have you a build thread on that engine? Sounds a bit tasty.
