View Full Version : i saw a car yesterday that is puzzling me.
hopefully the title got you to look here.
i was out in my wagon yesterday doing some local log deliveries, and i was parked up. i heard a loud, proper loud big engine being worked. the village i was in has a really good driving road nearby..
so i set off in the wagon & parked up outside the pub was a bright, shiny metallic orange tvr. it had a sort of private 2012 reg no TV12 ***. and this is the bit that was puzzling me.. i thought a car can't have a newer year plate on it than its date of first reg...
i thought that russian gangster's son had shut the company down in about 2008.. i've been all over the interweb today looking for any news about tvr opening up again but found nowt apart from a new website saying watch this space.
it was obviously a tvr, but it was the 2012 model reg that is confusing me, i didn't think any had been made for years
Nah i mean the reg.like if example it was x reg it would be tvr 999x
it looked like a very late model tvr, like the ones that were continually on top gear, it's the reg thing that i'm confused about as it definitely had a 12 reg plate. it also looked either new or like it has been very well looked after..
why would someone hang on to a car like that for several years before registering it?
unless it was impounded or subject to some sort of court order perhaps?

Or an import....
An import is still allocated a reg to suit the year it was first registered/ manufactured. I have a 94 import and it's on an L plate.

A few of the last ones, sure they were sagaris, were left in the factory 95% complete when it originally closed. When all the messing about was over a tvr specialist purchased these cars and finished them off, they were then sold as new cars, the car u seen must have been one of them. Iv just read a book I had my dad about tvr's, he has 2 tvr's, and was shocked to read about these late registered cars, as I too thought it all ended with that Russian playboy.
now that seems likely... have any of you lot seen those N reg maestro's.?
they went to Bulgaria in boxes for a project to start production there & the man in charge died in a car crash. they came back & a garage bought them all dirt cheap

Ledbury Maestro's. Some are registered as 51 plates.
As for the imports being allocated a reg the same as their date of manufacture, this doesn't always happen and some wrongly end up with a plate from the year they were imported.
Such as a 1993 year car that was imported in 1999, winding up with a T prefix.

This.
A friend of mine owns a bodyshop and his apprentice had an S registered Legacy estate that was built in 1991.
Exactly, seen a 54 plate mk2 MR2. Epic balls up by DVLA.

I never knew they did that I always thought it was done as per year of manufacture. Guess I was wrong haha

It usually is, never seems to happen to me otherwise I'd have an 07 plate MR2 Roadster rather then W reg.
Same,i knew a guy that had a 1995 estima import that ended up on a 02 plate.
