I bought a set of new Gaz GHA kit. I installed it in the car around 4 years ago and have done a maximum of 500 miles on it. I have always found it fairly harsh and it has never changed but just thought that it was maybe that is how they are meant to be.

Anyways they are now out of the car and I noticed with the front ones when I push down on the suspension rod it stays down and needs to be pulled back up with force. Also when I change the hard to soft damper setting the rod becomes fixed and cannot be moved.

Surely this cant be correct and maybe its why the ride has been so harsh all these years. If anybody can shed some light on this it would be great thanks

The piston should slowly rise back up i'm sure. And making them stiffer should stop it totally. It should still move...

They do a very good re furb service as i don't think it would be covered under warranty after 4 years. But you could ask/try. As they might be faulty.

Piston shouldn't move back up by its self. That's what springs are for. On its stiffest rebound setting you'll hardly be able to move the piston back out.

Sounds like it is working the way they should. Try the other damper if your not sure. The chances if 2 dampers failing in 500 miles is very slim.

Pretty sure Gaz told me they shouldn't push themselves out. What spring rates did you get?

Mmm now I am confused, I have 280lb spring rates I think. I will have to double check. They are lowered around 80mm on the front I'd say.

Was thinking with only around 500 miles they shouldn't be gone.

Are they the standard GHAs or extra lows? Patronising question but they're not just sitting on the bumpstops at 80mm low? My fronts are probably not anywhere near 80mm and I have tiny bumpstops and not as much travel as I'd like...

I thought the oil/gas in side them would make them slowly rise back up.

they "should" slowly push back out.

They are 8 inch 250lb springs. Not sure if they are the ultra low ones but I don't think so. Here are some pics of the setup.

Not the extra low kit no, huge bump stop haha.

Gotta say, just ring Gaz and ask them directly. They are very helpful i found.

So what do you reckon?

Smaller bump stops?

sell them and buy the ultra low kit

Can't see you'd be touching the bump stop on a 8inch spring, even set right at the bottom of the thread.
You can just cut the bump stop too, it's only hard foam.

I'm give them a ring, explain and see what they can.
