Hi all I'm new to the site my name is Chris and I'm 23 I work as a captain on tugboat towing ships ect I've just bought a f reg nova sr 1.3 in red it's ruff but have always wanted one and always liked the idea of a project and this came up for sale and was only a two minute drive from my house so a moment of madness And I bought it the car has not been looked after very well to say the least but I've seen people fixing worse so thought I would give it ago it's been in a rear end crash so rear panel is scrap and the boot floor is creased I've ordered new rear but unsure on what to do about the floor and advice would be much appreciated and all comments welcome good or bad 😄

Have you got any pics of the car including the boot floor? will help to see how bad the damage is and how best to go about repairing it.

Welcome to PNG, pictures are now approved. Just a tip, you can put up to 16 pictures in one post and that includes smilies btw. ;)
Looks like you'll have plenty of work on your hands here, I take it your good with a welder?

Walshysr
17-11-14, 03:59 AM
Thank you southie and i will post more pictures tomorrow luckily the rest of the shell is really clean no rust in the bay atall small hole in drivers side headlight support and the front wheel arch splash guards and I confident enough to do all the welding there is surface rust starting on the rear arches so they will be replaced but not by me as I'm not confident enough to do them I'm mainly looking for ideas to sort the crease in the boot floor as I would imagine you can not get replacement panel for the boot floor lol

Hi and welcome :) I've seen much worse so good luck with the project! Oh and btw you can get a panel for the boot floor they sell them on opel classic parts, well they used to anyway.

Southie

Found one on classic parts Germany
http://www.opel-classicparts.de/verkleidung-50030.html

This is number 5 off of ecat ending in 1137 as the other full boot is no longer stocked

I'm looking at keeping the sr lump in the car as I think c20xe are over used and for a old engine the majority of them have been abused most of there life and don't really want to go down the let route either so was just wondering what sort of things I can do to the 1.3 engine work is no problem as my friend owns Birkenhead engine centre my plan is for twin 40s so what else can I do to make the 1.3 abit more exciting :thumb:

theres some nasty folds in the floor pan there, from the bump.

before you spend loads of money on the engine, id go round the car with a tape measure if i were you, to check the rear wheels are where they should be.

does it drive in a straight line ?
any vibration at high speed ?

Walshysr
19-11-14, 01:58 AM
Hi there I've driven the car on the motorway all seems fine no vibrations or pulling to one side ect and I'm going to be putting a full rear floor pan in so will all be checked when it comes to fitting

Plans are new rear floor pan new rear panel new rear arches as they are getting a little scabby strip down full respray new polybushes all around full engine rebuild as it leaks from everywere I'm unsure on what to do with engine yet but hopefully twin 40 webers then lowered a little with compomotive mo5 wheels in white was hoping to leave interior standard but the rear bench is gone so unless I can find rear seats it will have to be stripped inside with full cage

Walshysr
20-11-14, 01:25 AM
Jimbob-mcgrew you could not believe the amount ash and roaches in the car I nearly filled a black bag and the headlining is yellow hahah

Hi all I'm wondering on peoples opinions on cutting out the spare wheel well and plating it as I'm struggling to find a replacement panel I've been to every scrap yard around in hope of cutting a boot floor out and had no luck I messaged opel classic and had no reply the car is 100 percent straight I've driven the car on motorway and all seems well I have measured and re measured I don't want to plate it but I'm stuck at the moment ?

Check if the rear chassis legs are in good order as the floor looks a bit rippled and the rear light pods look bent in but the easiest way to check is to fit another bootlid :thumb:

My new Floor pan has came this week I've taken fuel tank off suspension rear beam all brake lines fuel hoses and bent the rear aches back were they had been rolled they are not as bad as expected surface rust that's all unfortunately I'm away working this weekend so won't be touching it until next week now so next on the cards is remove the old floor and I'm wondering if I should make a brace across the rear struts and also across rear chassis legs incase when I remove the floor it all moves is this a possibility or will the shell stay together ?

thanks chris

So started by drilling the spot welds out

And choice of weapon 8mm spot weld drill

And ground back the paint ready for cutting you can see the rot that has caused me to fit the Cill also along the bottom had a small hole towards the front

Marked up ready to cut

And off with the rot

And all the rust that fell out as I was removing it
http://i1293.photobucket.com/albums/b598/walshy7ev/nova/A596E24E-150A-4DE1-9530-16E7D6555ED5_zpsozrgq13f.jpg (http://s1293.photobucket.com/user/walshy7ev/media/nova/A596E24E-150A-4DE1-9530-16E7D6555ED5_zpsozrgq13f.jpg.html)

Then lining the new panel up
http://i1293.photobucket.com/albums/b598/walshy7ev/nova/2C5C8E45-A776-4ECB-887D-8DFF7BF011DB_zpshh1g2bso.jpg (http://s1293.photobucket.com/user/walshy7ev/media/nova/2C5C8E45-A776-4ECB-887D-8DFF7BF011DB_zpshh1g2bso.jpg.html)

http://i1293.photobucket.com/albums/b598/walshy7ev/nova/7CC59FAA-47AF-4424-9298-6F7E1AF87152_zps8lzffk5i.jpg (http://s1293.photobucket.com/user/walshy7ev/media/nova/7CC59FAA-47AF-4424-9298-6F7E1AF87152_zps8lzffk5i.jpg.html)

also with the metal I removed ( rusty stuff ) I cut small lengths from roughly the position they were in and stuck them to the inside of the rear quarter so I could get the same shape joining the new panel if any of that makes sense ahha
http://i1293.photobucket.com/albums/b598/walshy7ev/nova/45B8BC4A-123D-40A5-8FDF-89FC37A5048E_zpss0qckoun.jpg (http://s1293.photobucket.com/user/walshy7ev/media/nova/45B8BC4A-123D-40A5-8FDF-89FC37A5048E_zpss0qckoun.jpg.html)
Pulled them off when finished

You can make out the small bits between the panel if you look close enough haha hope that all makes sense
http://i1293.photobucket.com/albums/b598/walshy7ev/nova/7CC59FAA-47AF-4424-9298-6F7E1AF87152_zps8lzffk5i.jpg (http://s1293.photobucket.com/user/walshy7ev/media/nova/7CC59FAA-47AF-4424-9298-6F7E1AF87152_zps8lzffk5i.jpg.html)

Making it all line up
http://i1293.photobucket.com/albums/b598/walshy7ev/nova/CB9A9EC8-9068-48AF-AE19-7E56A7BBA751_zpsay9kcluf.jpg (http://s1293.photobucket.com/user/walshy7ev/media/nova/CB9A9EC8-9068-48AF-AE19-7E56A7BBA751_zpsay9kcluf.jpg.html)

Then gave it all a good paint to stop the rust for a few more years
http://i1293.photobucket.com/albums/b598/walshy7ev/nova/2D217223-B542-44C4-9EB5-3D484C892BA9_zpsjzhxcbbo.jpg (http://s1293.photobucket.com/user/walshy7ev/media/nova/2D217223-B542-44C4-9EB5-3D484C892BA9_zpsjzhxcbbo.jpg.html)

Then made a start on welding it up
http://i1293.photobucket.com/albums/b598/walshy7ev/nova/80FF5AE7-8F21-41C3-BB61-B9BA453DC3E2_zpsospzg4ax.jpg (http://s1293.photobucket.com/user/walshy7ev/media/nova/80FF5AE7-8F21-41C3-BB61-B9BA453DC3E2_zpsospzg4ax.jpg.html)

Then ground down and start welding again
