Put a deposit down on another hutchinson cabby at the beginning of last month and went and picked it up today. Gave it a very quick wash in the last of the sunlight (after these pictures were taken), still needs a proper clean inside and out. Also needs the usual service items after 9 years in the garage untouched. Battery, plugs, fuel etc etc. Mk1 front end will be refitted and sr interior swapped for some other seats I have, new roof, perspex windows and original spoiler being delivered during the week aswell as a non rotten passenger door. Should keep me happy till my other one is painted.

First proper day to have a mess with this so today I set about making the roof waterproof-ish and getting it running.

Pretty handy that my new roof, side windows, tonneau cover and spoiler turned up this morning so started by ripping the old knackered roof off.

forgot to take any pictures after that as after I got the roof on I tried to free the frame off due, to the bottom hinges being sized solid, and ended up shearing both mounting pins off completely :( so the plan to fix that is to drill and tap what's left and bolt the new frame in to position.

Got it running briefly too via a remote fuel feed. Very supreme how easily she fired up with nothing more than a fresh battery and fresh fuel.

And she looks miles better without all that dust on her :)

Also ordered 2 rear arches to go on during spring as these 2 haven't got much (if any) life left in them.

Nice to see the parts going to a good home and not just into someone's storage. Shall continue to watch this with great interest. Keep at it.

Practically mint 2nd hand roof thanks to Craig. Looked mint before I broke the frame now it's back to looking like a poorly fitted tent.

Removed half the front end ready to reinstate the mk1 front end, got my other interior in (full inside still needs a good clean), drilled out the snapped roof frame pins and got one tapped before my drill died half way through the other side. So just waiting for the battery to recharge then finish it and get the frame back in properly. Not a bad afternoon.

Yeah proper glad, just need to sort these door cards out. Got so fed up of looking at the crappy cream I tore the rears and the nsf door cards off. Also noticed the door seals are cream and I'm missing the dash under shelves.

The roof looks good, is it water tight then now?

Hmm, is a nova with a fabric roof watertight?

Hell no lol but if you were to ask whether water cascades in then no, not quite.

This roof is the best fitting one out of the four rooves I've had fitted on cabbys. Pulls over all the joins and gaps nice and tight. A good fabric treatment should see a good level of water resistance.

A bit more progress this weekend.

Got it running. Runs sweet as a nut. Only had to drag it a few hundred yards to pull good fuel up from the tank.

Cleaned the interior up and treated all the carpets and seats with some carpet cleaner to get rid of the dank stink that was in it.

Gave the front wing a polish to see how well the paint would come up. Not bad on most of it but will need some areas repainting at some point.

Need to sort some bits for mot like wiper motor seized, no rear fog light working, overhaul the brakes, replace wiper blades. Everything else seems to be in order, no split boots or play in bearings/bushes etc.

The wiper arms spindles have probs seized and by removing the mechanism and taking off the circlips then it can be stripped and cleaned. Grease up the pins then reassemble

Yeah the sides are good, doors are shot, and boot is full of deep scratches so that'll have to be done do, rear arches will be getting replaced next year some and the bonnets ****ed too. Not much new paint needed then ha ha

Found my machine polisher today so gave the nova a quick going over, treated the tonneau cover to a clean as well.

You can see the difference between polished and unpolished from the pictures. Although it's brought a shine back the paintwork itself isn't too clever and will need repainting in the future but not essential for now.

There's not been much in the way of progress on this recently due to me moving house.

That being said it is now tucked up in its new home and I spent half an hour throwing the mk1 front end back on it. You'll have to excuse the panel gaps, like I said it was thrown on quickly.

Well there's been some positive progress on this and some backwards steps too, the bowl gasket on the carb split causing it not to run, so I sourced a genuine nova sport twin 40 setup for it, not cheap but will be worth it once fitted.

Got the rear end lowered and one front coilover fitted, still need to do the other side and set it up roughly for height and tracking.

Fitted the rear spoiler, bought some clear rear lights for a future mod. Picked up a load of niggly little things from 2 novas in a scrappy.

Fitted a full matching set of door cards that are grey rather than the crappy beige that was there previously.

Now also set the car on fire thanks to a chafed wire and an overrated fuse :( the number plate wire had shorted on the bumper bar and melted the wiring untill an inch off the main loom, so I've fitted the correct fuse and rewired the number plate light.

Found a lot of rot in the floor hidden and only found because I started scraping a tiny bubble, completely rotted out along each side of the chassis rails. So I cut the whole floor pans out to fabricate my own as floor pans are not available new. Also need a patch in the rear valance and on the lower radiator mounts.

Think that's it in the way of an update, now for some pictures.

So this one will be off for welding and paint in the next few months :)

Tbh I cut more out of the floor than I needed to but I'd rather get it all out now than risk it coming back in the future. As the other has had all its welding finished this will now get put back into a movable condition and sent down the road for welding as it's far beyond my skills.

Best way, cut every trace out.
