Intermittent loss of spark

Anyone ever had this? Everything runs fine then bam no spark; can be totally random and there's no correlation with engine load, temperature or RPM.

coil and dizzy or coilpack?

if its the coilpack its likely to be wet., and or change the plugs.

Could also be a main earth, had something similar on my old C16xe conversion. I ended up adding extra earth cables, one at the gearbox end, another extra from the alternator and an extra one to the battery.
Also cleaning the existing earth points.

Will be a dizzy and coil set up s it's a carb'ed engine.

Yeah a C20XE on 45's with a dizzy running a brand new coil & ignition amplifier; I could run a wire direct from the battery + to the coil / amp and it would still do it.

Had the thing setup on the rollers this afternoon and it cut out once in 2 hrs, rest of the time it never missed a beat making the power it should. Got within 400 meters of home & the thing just cut out & didn't want to start for another 20 minutes.

Should it be coil or amp getting to hot? (on the rollers you'd of had big fans cooling it down, drive home could get hotter)

I melted the insides of a coil when it was hidden...

Like Benn said, the amplifier may be getting hot. I've seen it on a let but that was getting really hot on the rollers... Does it or has it happened on the road?

Yeah could happen idling after say just 5 mins; not even half way up to temp etc.

I think the issue's been resolved! :colonchin:

Not counting my chickens just yet, but I've managed a good 8 miles & 10min idle without any loss; considering how bad / frequently it was before the amendment I've just done, the difference is night & day.

On the 7 pin ignition amp plug, I've squeezed all the female ends tight again & made a little zip tie carrier that attaches to it; holding the plug in.

If this does prove to fix things, I recon the resonance of the engine through the competition mounts & bay is enough to loosen pretty much everything / anything. Come to think of it, the 4th engine mount to the front cross member would only be adding to the vibration since the ignition amp is on the slam panel (behind the headlight).

was there any chalky corrosion on either male/female side of those those 7 connector ends ?

sometimes causes a bit of an obstacle for electricity flow

Certainly nothing chalk like; ok not all gleaming steel, but enough to pass current.

Gonna put some more miles on it in daylight tomorrow if weather's fine.
