been building this car a few months so i think its time i started a thread on here as ill more than likely need some help as i go, it is a 1.2 8v but i plan to put something bigger into it.
http://i760.photobucket.com/albums/xx244/vauxhallpower/20140711_125104.jpg (http://s760.photobucket.com/user/vauxhallpower/media/20140711_125104.jpg.html)http://i760.photobucket.com/albums/xx244/vauxhallpower/20140711_125057.jpg (http://s760.photobucket.com/user/vauxhallpower/media/20140711_125057.jpg.html)
as u can see there a lot of work to be done to get it ready for paint, the underneath was suprisingly solid,
http://i760.photobucket.com/albums/xx244/vauxhallpower/20140716_201337.jpg (http://s760.photobucket.com/user/vauxhallpower/media/20140716_201337.jpg.html)http://i760.photobucket.com/albums/xx244/vauxhallpower/20140716_201320.jpg (http://s760.photobucket.com/user/vauxhallpower/media/20140716_201320.jpg.html)
i then stipped the car to the bare shell so it could be sand blasted and painted with red lead to keep it rust proof,
http://i760.photobucket.com/albums/xx244/vauxhallpower/20140924_193454.jpg (http://s760.photobucket.com/user/vauxhallpower/media/20140924_193454.jpg.html)http://i760.photobucket.com/albums/xx244/vauxhallpower/20140924_193413.jpg (http://s760.photobucket.com/user/vauxhallpower/media/20140924_193413.jpg.html)
i had to put a full front pannel into the car before it was blasted and coated, only bad bits left on the car are the bottoms of the two arches which i bout two innwe and outer arches to replace the whole lot now that it been done, the car is now currently out getting painted so hopfully have it back in the next two week.
as im waiting for the car to return i thought id make a start on other bits, so far iv the tank and rear axle done,

hope to have more done soon just hard finding time with work lol

Should be an interesting build this, what spec engine are you building and also what colour are you going for?

For posting pictures via your phone use the photobucket app and upload pictures into this thread and copy and paste the [IMG] option ;)

Putting a 2.0 8v out of a calibra, in the middle of building the engine at the moment so hopefully have it ready when I get the car back from paint :) painting the car black with a red stripe on the bumpers, will be a gte rep, have a red at interior sitting to go in as well so hopefully if all goes well it should look pretty sweet :)

Aye I thought if I got it sand blasted It would show Al the soft spots but luckily the only bad bits were at the bottoms of the two arches and the front panel so they were replaced, got it coated with red lead them to hopefully prevent it from ever goin bad, based in n.ireland.

Good plans with the XE to give it a refurb, although I wouldn't try a DIY port job if that's what you're thinking. Don't forget to have the crank out and measured up.

You may want to use an OE XE sandwich plate instead of that shiny blue one as it has a thermostat switch inside to bypass the cooler.

Worth getting the larger radiator in there for a bigger engine.

Measure up the crank journals (where the bearings run) to see if it's worn. May require a regrind, polish or nothing. Then order new bearings to suit.

Nova GTE/GSi radiator should do you, it fills the space in the front of the car and doesn't stand on legs like the one you have.

If you wanna do it right and would need mods done too it. Just spunk the money and get it made for you and your specs.
£250+ tho, but it will be right and perfect first time.

This will do you fine, OE Valeo item: http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00D0DERJO/ref=pe_385721_51767431_TE_dp_1

Then maybe consider a slimline fan to replace the OE one.

Haven been on for a while, but Iv been cracking on with the build bit by bit, the car is now away back to paint after it being seam welded and strengthened, pulled the engine apart to make sure everything was fine, also sent the head to be rebuild and get skimed, only thing I'm waiting for now is the inlet and throttle body and a few brackets etc to come back from being soda blasted, then I can finish building up the engine and hopefully buy that time the car will be back from paint and it's just a mater of setting the engine in and wiring it up, also got some new wheels and refuted them, http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160127/077fc16fe53538733714828f2fb2c23a.jpghttp://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160127/f9af7781178539903dc045986b44dceb.jpghttp://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160127/1061d2c6895b6e7d6ba55dc0ad5e649e.jpg

Few genuine rebuild parts for the redtop arrived today :) there only small but it's always nice to get genuine parts every so often lol, it's the timing belt back plate, springs, screws washers etc, and the original sale receipt from Vauxhall in 2012 :)

It might be worth taking the top 'lip' off the chassis boxing, and welding it nearer the turret seam. That's where my alternator seemed to sit close on mine.

Was thinking it might not be cut in far enough, might cut it a bit further cause don't want to end up having to cut it again after its painted,

It looks quite deep, but my concern would be the top right area, and where it steps out at the top edge; I'd remove that lip and weld it flush with the seams.

Got to agree with IaIn over the alt boxing. Its the top line of the leg that's normally where it touches.

I'll cut it in a bit further this evening cause I'll hopefully be leaving it to paint at the start of the week, I'll get a pic up after I do it to make sure I'm far enough in, cheers lads

What's the big cut out in the top of the rear leg all about?

-fred-
15-02-16, 01:45 PM
Awh that's were it bolts together, it's purely just for looks reasons, I'm goin to get a real good cage after I get the car out for a wee while,

Only a small update as the shell is away getting painted again, ordered some slimline fans today, off the top of my head the only parts I have left to get now is braided fuel lines and a wiper motor and linkages,

If its purely for looks reasons why not just use wastepipe and chrome spray paint? It will be far safer than that.
