Assume this is the right forum? Mentioned it in my car thread but everyone was too busy laughing at my amateurish rust repairs....I'm considering upgrading the suspension on my 1.0 to be more competitive next season. Not bothered about stance too much so just curious to see what's the best value stuff to get to improve handling?

I considered coilovers but most are worth more than the car tbh and I'm not bothered about setting them up constantly as I drive to and from the meetings rather than trailer it. I was told by one of the drivers at Shelsley that OEM GTE suspension is better value than even sports kits, so I don't know really? Just wanted to get a second opinion or two really.

Also are polybushes and a strut brace worth getting? Had mixed answers from fellow competitors - one guy who's campaigned an F plate SR for a decade with his dad said strut braces aren't needed, as did the same bloke who mentioned GTE suspension, (said strut braces were chavvy!)

Rally design sell the poly bushes individually and cheap, I would fit them first. If you can fit a rear ARB off a Mk3 Cav saloon, they need modifying to fit but isn't a hard job and really help they go round corners.
Fit the best shock and spring set up you can but I wouldn't bother going lower than -60mm and then finally get the cars wheel alignment sorted. With all these mods done right it should handle pretty wheel.

Im a fan of the secondary rear ARB and I also fit front and back strutbraces. Suspension is a bit of mystery though, as Ive tried a few different things and it had some better than others. Ive bought the premium brand coilovers with camber adjusting top mounts now, but have yet to fit them.

Above all else, have the best and stickiest tyres you can afford!

Budget coilovers like the FK blue ones are quite good tbh, a little stiff but not bad for the money. Not the best poundage springs on bigger engines but would suffice on yours I reckon.

Rear strut brace bolted for welded to the turrts makes a good difference.

I thought gt shocks where the same....

I remember having the option of sport suspension when buying a std setup for mine ages ago
