View Full Version : F20 Gearbox, shaft bearing
After eventually getting the xe running, time to see if the gerbox fitted in July works...well very noisely.
It turns out the bearing in the casing where the shaft goes to the flywheel (plastic casing) is broken.
I have since dumped the original damaged f20 box which would have had this in it.
I have a few spare F10 boxes, is it likely this bearing would be the same? I could then take one from an F10 and get driving!
I'll post a picture in a minute.
Thanks

One other question, can I remove and replace with the gearbox casing on the car or does it have to be done from the otehr side with the box removed?
Thanks

Yes, that looks to be the right one. I have no idea how you change them over though.

does it go into a blind hole? the pic is rubbish for working out how it goes in/out.
its not blind, but its a pig to get to
Thanks, it looks like the box has to come off and then a plate behind the clutch release thing? I'll inspect it more tomorrow before I start removing the box.

As Jim said, just two bent valves. I have had bent valves in carb engines before but in an injection engine it seems to cause really bad running.
