SO.. this spanish donkey turd sat out side my house is still reffusing to work!!

Its got compression (190 185 195 195)

The dizzy is lined up to its orignal markings

The cam timing is correct

Power is making it to the ecu

The fuel pump is priming

fuel is making it to the spark plugs

all 4 spark plugs have spark

im lost. help me

Is it just cranking over but refusing to start?

Yes. it started for a short while the other day but konked out and now refuses to start

its now making popping burbling noises when you try and start it :/

What have you had done to it and what engine are you running?

Sure you've got the leads in the correct order?

1.4 spi out if a corsa b (14nz) i bought the car with a blown headgasket and..changed it and now im having a ball ach trying to get it to start

Yer ive checked that a few times and iain double checked it yesterday. i will get a photo up if it helps a third opnion is never a bad thing

Iain thinks i should point out how i done the engine timing encase its wrong

With the head off i turned the engine to tdc (cylinder 1) and then turned the cam untill it lined up with its marker on the timing case. Once the head was on i turned the engine by hand to insure there was no contact between the valves and pistons....now if the cam was 180 deg out im sure the engine wouldnt have fired into life so im convinved its fine

Yeah it just turns over and over. Can see the injector spraying and all spark plugs are firing. Compression seems OK now I've torqued down the head. So that surely leaves ignition timing or the belt being out?

The most life has been excess fuel burning in the inlet manifold.

is the rotor arm set in the right position, for correct firing.

not sure on the spi's. but its pointed to 1 or 2 o clock on the carbs (when piston 1 is at TDC, and the timing marks are alinged)

that will be plug lead #1, and then anti-clockwise order after that

...or firing order

The rotor arm is dictated by the cam on these has two diffrent guide holes so shouldnt be room for error

I know I checked the firing order but double check it Leigh

I thought these went 1-3-4-2 starting with 1 at the top right? Maybe that's completely wrong lol but worth a try?

turbojolt
21-09-14, 03:36 PM
the thing is I cable tied the ht leads so I knew what cylinder they went on to and I never took them off the dizzy cap...so i don't see how this cant be the right way round

meritlover

instead of randomly switching leads, check the alignment of the rotor button as per Jimbobs post. that will be no.1 Then find out the correct firing order and check from there.

it takes 10 mins max to do properly.

i gather you replaced the distributor drive pin already, which is why its worth double checking from first principles, rather than going by a picture.

Was it running when you bought it? Maybe someone messed with the leads

battery was dead when I got it

jimbob-mcgrew

is this an earlier photo ? .. as it looks like the dizzys not plugged in, and the lambda sensors unplugged too

turbojolt
21-09-14, 05:40 PM
Yer i unpluged them when i was messing about with it.

as suggested i got it to tdc and the rotor arm was pointing to the bottom left not the top right so i spun the dizzy around and it worked!!!!

Drove half a mile down the road and it just died and wouldnt restart so ive had to push it all the way back home! No small task for a exercise shy fatty like me

oh sh1t, lol.

this nova's being a dirty bugger.

i hope that dizzy drive hasnt bust again

Ive had enough of it today pushing it has killed me lol. i will pull it apart tomorow AGAIN! And see whats what i supose

tj, as you look at the dizzy end, it should look like this

............1
....3..........
................2
..........4

stick a strobe on no1 and see if the ignition timing is right.

Iain

Mowgli the dizzy was missing the part that slots into the cam to turn the rotor arm originally. He got a new dizzy from the scrappy and we swapped the little drive piece over to the old dizzy. However it was fitted via a little pin so we obviously got it 180 out, hence the cap upside down and us checking every order and not where the rotor was pointing at tdc.

stick a strobe on no1 and see if the ignition timing is right.
Is that doable without the bottom pulley timing mark? Just use the cam marker?
