View Full Version : Cleaning Foam Air Filters
Racing on Sunday and want to clean my air filter as last couple of meets been rather dusty.
What essentially is the 0mfg cleaners that are 500quid a can?? Is there anything else that can do it?
K&N's kit includes oil which I have loads of anyway and is £16,i could get a 2nd hand filter for that!
Any help/advice is always appreciated.

never had one myself, but if its like any other foam, i guess you'd get away with repeatedly squeezing it in washing up liquid (a de-greaser) and warm water. then rinse throughly squeezing it in plain warm water.
when fully dried out, a very light coating of oil.
dont go too mad with the oil, as ive heard alot of people complain about starting and running problems, when too much oil is used.
i dont know what kind of oil is best
Proper air filter oil of course!
Soapy water sounds a good bet

i reckon millworms idea with WD would do the job, as its good at gathering dust, and wont hurt if any particles get sucked into the combustion chamber.
just a light spray tho :thumb:
I said I have loads of the correct air filter oil.
No need to hobo around with fart sprays lol

sorry, i mis-read your post.
fart spray smells so good tho lol
I used petrol then rinsed then washed with fairy liquid then rinsed then applied the oil when it was dry,
Trouble with petrol and solvents is it will dissolve the glue.
I shall do a test on a piece of sponge sprayed with the oil later.

Hot soapy water and then a light layer of 2 stroke oil
If you done proper motorsport, instead of what is basically a load of scrap and/or stolen cars razzing around a Sunday League pitch, you wouldn't have these issues.

Carb cleaner spray works well also
Put a paper filter in and change every race.
