Welcome back.
cheers guys Benn if i pop 1 out and pull it gently will it not break off ?
no innuendo implied lol
I pop it up then pull from the very bottom of it, as that's where they are strongest... So less force is used.
Cheers benn i'll give it a go, I was thinking about sliding a knife down both sides to see if that would help ?
Doesn't the whole cassette unit just pullout and theres a screw underneath a tab under the cassette holder? Off to read my Haynes as its been years since I owned a mk1.
edit: nothing in my Haynes about it.
Unless youve got some rare slammin vinyl tapes in there just use a hammer ffs.
who has tapes in 2014?!
Turns out a knife an benns combo work well cassette holder out.
Andy the hammer was next on the list of subtle tools to use lol

I have to gen 80s tapes then i opened and removed all the tape crap out and fitted usb keys in to them. So they fit the tape pop up bits but have a 30gig usb in each...

If its a mk1 console jut lift up the flat (console coloured) plate in front of the tape holders, all 40r5 should just lift out. They only stay in by their own weight really. If its a mk2, you just need to prise them out iirc.
Tape holders were a prime OEM upgrade bitd, a fantastic upspeccing to my 1.2L, then it had a 3speed interior fan, inertia reel seatbels, rear wash-wipe & tape holders. Epic!
