Hi guys I've got a 14nz block at the machine shop to have the 16se internals fitted I've had it pointed out that the flywheels are different and the starter motor placement is different. Are the internal dimensions the same to fit the 1600 crank and rods or am I better off starting from scratch with the 14se block

you might need to put the engine together without the rings, to see if you need to take any metal off the side of the block for the conrods to miss... to be honest, you should be able to drop the 1600 crank & rods in the 14nz block before any other work is done to check it before the block gets bored...

Is there any particular reason for fitting the 1600 internals into a 1400 block? What are the benefits over simply using a 16se engine?

well, if you can get away with the smaller flywheel position, then the std smaller flywheel has much smaller mass, thus lower inertia, thus quicker revs.. also, it still has a 1400 engine no.... [cough] insurance [cough]

Theres that and the race class rules say you can overbore a block but still has to run a 1.4 block and head

Would it just be the same to just fit 1600 crank on the 1400 pistons to check clearances as I've tried pistons and there a no go

well, you might have bother with piston rings hitting the bottom of the bore, so I'd say remove them 1st, but it should still work, as long as the big ends on the 1.4 rods is the same size as the 1.6 rods

I have 16 internals in my 14 block, had to chamfer the bottom of the bores for the rods to clear, easy done, also run a lightened 14 flywheel and f10 box, goes good
