After having spoken to a few members at billing it was requested that a proper facebook group be set up. Once home and having thought about it I couldn't see what harm it would do, so here it Is

https://www.facebook.com/groups/733620063366101/

Please bare in mind it is a closed group and you need granting access first. I obviously do this asap but I do have to get a dew hours sleep a day

Might as well just shut the forum down now then.......

What's the point in having a Facebook page and a forum?

For once I'll agree with Edd, it's just going to help lessen the forum activity even more...

If you can't beat them, join them I suppose. It may make people come on here more if only for project wips.

I won't see it though as I don't use Facebook lol

ill use both, most have facebook anyway so it wont hurt, activity never went down when the fake page was put up so what makes this different

Interesting how the only two to complain so far dont have facebook ;)

Like it or not facebook isn't going anywhere and is only going to become bigge. As said the fake group is very popular and hasn't taken away from the forum so why not have our own one whicb we can control and use to our advantage?

I for one already rarely use the forum due to the way I browse. I personally use the new post feature to browse which is fine until I need to put my phone down for 10 minutes as when I pick it up again it resets the search and then I dont get to see all thats new.

I personally think it will fill the role of the old png chat as well and try and build the social aspect of this community. So so often we hear how people dont come and talk to people at shows because they dont know/recognise anyway, well if you've been talking to someone with their picture right next to the comments you will surely recognise them when you come face to face with them?

The problem is not whether facebook or the web there just is not enough nova owners with similar interests to make local meetings a reality and so I am go with other clubs to shows. This way, most of the local shows have several novas on different stands (with different interests). Kendal with 14 novas will take some beating but 7 last week at Bodelwyddan was not too bad. On both we were on stands on clubs from facebook, so you will have a lot of competition for interest.

and yes there is a lot of armchair critics on PNG.

True we will have a lot of competition but if we are not on facebook in the first place we stand zero chance! At least this puts us in the running

Personally here's what I think , if "we" as a club don't move with the times we will end up in a similar position to the png of old, we need to reach new blood and sign up new member, because members make a club!
Facebook is a quick and easy way to message and contact all club members, eg organising for a club stand at a show.
As long as we still have the forum for real content fb will work brilliant in our favour for organising and drumming up new members.

Trying to find a post on there from just yesterday takes fooking ages and ****s me off lol. They really need a forum!

I was looking at this most days before I signed up, then on here for 2 years before I became a club member. I don't use Facebook and probably never will but if it help with this site then fair enough.

Facebook is great for today's news but rubbish once over 24 hours old. Lots of other (none car) reasons why facebook is not a good idea including like privacy etc etc. You are being watched is very true every time you press a button on the computer and when you see links to adverts from other sites you have visited you realise just how evasive the web is and facebook is perhaps the worse of them all.
Keep up the good work on this website.

this is my main reason for not being on facebook is privacy, I just don't trust it.

Fair play moving with the times, it's when stuff starts getting advertised/arranged via there (e.g. show stands, attendance) and not here things would go downhill rapidly

Stuart
