I lost 3rd speed in the way to billing and asymed that it was the resistor, I picked one up from vaux and fitted it this ending but still no joy. Could it be the switch? Or motor? Motor turns freely. Any help appreciated as it gets ht in my car haha

Easiest thing to do is try another switch. Most likely the contact in this I would think.

would have to have look at the drawings before giving anymore advice.

Fitting brake discs later so might get chance to check out my Haynes manual for diagram.

have you got an ohmmeter ?

Last time I bench tested one I found earth and applied 12v to the remaining pins one at a time to check the speeds

Looking at the diagram for 1983 and 1984 models the 3 speed diagram shows speed 1 has 2 inline resistors, speed 2 has just the one resistor then speed 3 has a direct supply to the motor.
speed 1 cable is blue 0.75 mm, speed 2 grey 1mm and speed 3 yellow cable 1.5 mm
So if speed 1 &2 are working then as long as the motor gets supply from the switch it should work...?
i suspect the switch?
