Gear linkage

Only fault I had with my nova was the gear changes on the way home :(

i have a new one of them metal rods to go and was just wondering if it had the exact length on old one or is there any benefits of lengthing or shortening it, and what drill bit size do u use to allign linkage

I Cba to make one it's ok just got the metal rod that replaces plastic one already so just want to make it better
