I've noticed a lot priming up with red oxide, what are the advantages of using it if any? I've been using grey and feel I'm missing out lol

I always thought it was for bare metal

It gets into the corners and seams easier and gives you a sore head even outdoors lol

I'd use acid etch on bare metal, a light coat of zink then normal grey.

I'm using grey at the minute to stop it Rusting as it's outside but under cover. I think when the time comes to paint the engine bay I'll acid etch as I have a tin and then build other coats on top. I've heard of some body shops using red oxide to give the top coat a deeper look.

You need to primer over red oxide, so it wont do anything to the top coat.

Etch only really goes on bare metal.

Thought so I've acid etched most things underneath which I took back to bare metal, stone guarded and undersealed them. The body shop is doing the exterior but I'm repairing the crossmember, seam welding and fixing the battery tray first and want to get it right first time.

I never had much luck with red oxide primer in the past, zine primer seems to hold back the rust
