New features on side bar under Avatar

So as per title what's with these new features on the side under our avatars?

The mentioned,tagged,post thanks/ likes blah blah blah, i cant see how there meant to be used..:confused:

If i put a @scott it's like Face****ebook you'll get a message/email telling you i've tagged you. So people can be linked easier...

THe rest not so sure on...

Say you wanted me to see a wanted thread, you'd put @ Benn and i'd get a email (like when some one replies to your thread) so you'll see it faster...
