View Full Version : Stu's new grey SR project
Hi people
I've been meaning to start a project thread since I got the new nova
Back in October last year (2013) but I've been to busy with work
Home kids etc and when I have had time I've spent time on the SR
Anyway I got the SR from oli (top bloke) a steel grey (surprise surprise my usual colour choice)
F reg nova SR with only 51k on the clock loads of history and in good condition
Worst bits on the body two little patches on the lower part of the rear wheel arches
Where they meet the cils and a bit of bubbling on the drivers door bottom!
Apart from that not bad a bit of damage to the drivers seat and bits of trim missing.
The plan was to strip the car and rebuild it with lots of new clean parts.
Remove engine, rebuild, clean and paint the bay
Strip underside of the car and paint.
I drove the nova back from oli's house (100 miles+) with a big smile on my face
Got it home, straight in my warm dry garage and I didn't touch it again
Until after christmas
Thanks for looking
More to come
A couple of photos of my last project if anyone can remember it?

Errrrrrmmmm.... Mistral GSi?!? LOL
Good to see you got the pics uploading issue sorted!
Hi mate hope your well
I've been going to start a new project thread
Since I got the SR last October
But as you know, always something else to do
SR's steel grey the one in the photo above is my old mistral grey GSI
The one you looked at the sad day it went.

So I guessed right! What did I win?! LOL
You should have kept the GSi IMO...
Now show us some more pics of the SR!
Cheers Ben, and yes Jeff I do think sometimes I should have kept the GSI but the one I do regret selling
Is the steel grey SR that I got of si (SRimon) and the black nova that Paul (wardy's) just got.
I did loads to that car, think he going to billing with it!
Anyway the plan with the new GREY SR was to go for the clean and factory fresh look
First job was to drop the 1.3 engine out and clean and paint the bay.
Didn't need much work no rust or rot but not clean enough for me,
Sorry I didn't take many photos I just wanted to get stuck in
The bay stripped, flatted of and the different sealers and primers before colour

http://i689.photobucket.com/albums/vv255/sturooke/vauxhall%20nova%20SR/F%20reg%20nova%20SR/imagejpg9.jpg
The next job was to strip all the parts down clean and paint everything
New seals, boots, covers, stainless steel nuts and bolts where can they could be used

Top work!! What's the story behind the masking tape on the bulk head??
I removed the sound proofing from the bulk head and it was in good shape
And wanted to refit it rather than painting.
When I removed the wires, cables, brake pipes, steering rack, brake servo etc
I was left with loads of holes and didn't want over spray and dust etc in the cab
So I just covered the holes over.
Great project and workmanship!
Cheers Kev :thumb:
Top job Stu, i'll get cracking on mine soon....!
Next job was to refit all my nice clean and new parts
Header tank fresh from the wife's dishwasher (don't tell her)
Brake servo and master cylinder, steering rack, bonnet stay, wiper motor etc
All had been painted and new parts fitted

Next was to rebuild the original 51k 1.3 engine
The nova drove home sound no problems
But it's not part of my plan to leave parts untouched
New parts on engine fitted
Clutch kit, reverse light switch, full gearbox gasket set including drive shaft seals,
Timing belt kit and water pump, full engine gasket and seal kit,
New oil pump, got the sump powder coated, engine mountings
Clutch cable, dizzy, dizzy cap, rotar arm, HT leads,
Plugs, air and oil filters.
Polished the rocker cover and oil cap
Loads of stainless steel bolts
The head was sent away for skimming and checking
Loads more that I've probably forgot

Today it went in for its MOT
No problems and no advisories :thumb:
