Starter Issues

ok this could be another problem with my engine but here goes

earlier i was heading out

got in car flicked on ignition - waited for pump to prime then turned key to start position

nothing happened

i opened the bonnet and listened for clicks - nothing

removed steering cover thing and wiggled black cap - nothing

connected starter red/black to a perm live behind dash - nothing

i went into the house to get a torch and come back out - jacked car up and wiggled all the wires - everythign looked fine

tried to start again - still nothing

i stood flicking the key for about 5-10 secs and suddenly it makes a grinding noise so i let go

turned key again and it started

and its seems fine now

any ideas whats up? starter solenoid on its way out?

Could be bad ground, check the gearbox-ground. In many cases, this is the only connection between starter and ground. If your starter seems fine, it probably is.
