Hi all, im looking to get a HD action cam for the summer, got a few track days etc planned.

I cant convince myself I need a GoPro this summer maybe next year so I was just looking at the cheap ones on ebay for now.

Has anyone got any experience with them or can recommend any etc?

Cheers in advance

I was in exactly the same position as you are, i wanted mine predominantly for snowboarding, but knowing i wouldn't use it losds couldn't justify the gopro price, so i did loads of research and found the perfect solution...
It's a good quality Chinese copy of the gopro for a fraction of the price,( they use the came clips/mounts so can buy gopro mount products etc) you can order them directly from the manufacturer for around £60 with free p&p but takes around a month to arrive, or buy it on eBay for another £15 but take just as long to arrive..

Here’s a link to the website

Serch on Youtube for fotage from them, you won't be disappointed.. :)

Ps: buy it in USD as even after all added on bit for tax postage etc it's cheaper..

Scott, did you get the car/suction mount ? Interested to know if it can be trusted mounted externally on a car.
Thanks

Honest answer, no idea, as i don't have one.. But as the gopro mounts are fully compatible with the sj4000 i cant see it being a problem buying an official gopro suction mount and performing exactly the same...
Here’s mine.

Suction mounts are a bit scary but do seem to work well, although I stuck it to my roof and could see if pulling the skin from the inside so may be a bit brutal for Nova bodywork lol

I recently got a 'Pedco' clamp mount which is quite universal/flexible use, as well as my proper Manfrotto Superclamp rollcage mount.

GoPro suction cups are rated at 150mph... And mine hasn't fallen off yet (max. 277km/h)

But what about the unofficial mounts? Like the one that comes as a $7 option on the camera Scott recommended? Or the hundreds on Ebay? Anyone had experience with these?

Dude if you want a good reliable mount for your car and has to be the suction type get the gopro official one, buy it directly etc (or Amazon) so it's not a copy, some of the copy mounts are hit and miss to the strength quality imo.

Agree, my mate had a Chinese Gopro copy, the camera seemed fine but the copy mounts were utter cheese. Barely lasted 2 mins on a cycle ride. Deffo use Gopro mountings or hardware for peace of mind.

Well I was thinking they probably aren't great but the Gopro mounts cost around £40 from what I've seen, and the camera is only about £60! I might give it a whirl but keep it stuck to the inside of my windscreen, then probably end up coughing up for the genuine one when it keeps landing in the foot well!

Inside the car you can get away with a cheap knock-off mount...
But, outside the vehicle is a totally different story. [emoji6]

If you mount it inside then get an external mic and mount it by the air filter or exhaust ;-)

The official suction mounts are used by EVERYONE, all footage you see on TG or any car show from outside is using them, so you know they work well.. don't get me wrong, the camera i have is bloody brilliant, cant fault it for the money, but as i say not all, but some of the mounts from china are crap, so it's worth the slight extra for the mount, so if you get an official suction mount and an SJ4000 that's still only £100 total..

BTW you get a load of useful mounts that are not crap with the camera, and two back doors, one with slots for sound to enter, one that's solid for waterproof footage etc.

Watch this guy's review , he's brilliant, if somewhat anal to a point of ocd lol
