Faulty fuel gauge in 1.4 sr

Any one know what the common problems are with these

Usually the sender in the tank, the dash could have a dodgy track on the clocks or you've got a bad earth.

Does it work when you've a full tank and then wave up and down when you've say have about half a tank or less??

On the bottom of the petrol tank where the sender fits try swapping the wires over, it sounds like they're the wrong way around.

Or they aren't fitted/broken
