Does anyone know if it makes a difference what stat you use.

according to my Haynes manual for the 1300 engine you are supposed to have a 91/103 stat.

whereas a 1200 is supposed to use a 92/107 stat.

ie open at 92 and be fully open at 107.

have tried to get hold of a 91/103 stat and can't find one anywhere.

is it ok to use the 92?

the problem is I remember using my car last about 10 years back and the temp gauge used to fluctuate badly from hot to cold very quickly.

could this of been an issue with lack of water as I think I had a small air lock! Or does it mean my stat was no good?

i have tested the stat and measured it with a temp gauge and all seems fine. Opens and closes nicely at the right temps.

thanks for any replies.

Nothing wrong with a 92

Thanks.
do you think the erratic temp gauge was due to airlock?

It depends on many things really... So long as it didn't overheat its fine

Sign of a leaking head gasket (fluctuating temp)

Hi
it was after I changed the head gasket and I put a new stat in.
the car does not over heat as it was running nice a month back. Had it in bits to have some bodywork done.
so have took the chance to get some jobs done on it. New radiator being the one that involves the stat etc.
i have put the 92 back in now and will have to see how it goes. Only problem is I have now found the fuel tank to be
well past it's best, so the tanks out now!
Thanks for the comments though as at this point I can't rule it out !
