Hi all,

7/8 years ago I bought an unused brand new Quaife 6 speed SCCR 3 dog dog box for use in my rally car, it stayed unused for 3 years just not getting round to building it. 6 months ago it was professionally built it into an F13 GSI nova casing with all brand new bearings (support & shafts), new gaskets and the case professionally modified to clear the larger 1st gear. The dogs are perfect having never been used, the gear teeth have all been professionally NDT crack tested before assembly (as precaution, no wear signs). The casing has all been blasted and cleaned and the end casings (sandwich plate and Quaife 6th gear cover) cleaned and painted black. It remains without a diff so you can install the diff you desire to suit your needs (plate/atb etc) and requires a CW which I have a quote of £221.50 from Quaife so is available and in stock. The gear ratios are as follows:

1st: 2.54
2nd: 1.93
3rd: 1.56
4th: 1.30
5th: 1.14
6th: 1.04
Final Drive: 4.36

This would be an excellent addition to any race/rally or if you feel like going extreme, track car as with the close ratios and dog engagement is an excellent competition gearbox suiting anything from a 1.2 8v up to a 1.6 16v. here is what it says on the Quaife site:

Vauxhall Opel - Nova Corsa - F13 / F15 6-speed dog engagement Quaife gearkit.
Complete 6 speed dog engagement gear kit Straight cut gears for minimal power loss, close ratio gears to maximise performance.
Choice of final drive ratios, bespoke Quaife selector forks supplied in the gearkit also heavy duty gear case end cover. Input shaft runs to 7/8” inch 20T spline format
We would recommended when using this gearkit the optional heavy duty gear lever and heavy duty turret (available separate)

6 Speed Dog Gearkit
Straigh cut gears
Includes Crown wheel and pinion set
Includes heavy duty end cover
Includes selectors
Input shaft runs to 7/8” inch 20T spline
Quaife ref:
EB-QKE10C

Included are some pictures of the build and how it currently sits. The new diff bearings are included ready to put on your diff and the diff cover is also included. If you have any questions please let me know.

I am wanting £2000 for the box as they cost £4890.60 new and this has been professionally assembled with brand new bearings throughout and new gaskets so it owes me a lot more than what im asking for it, but, a new route means this is no longer required.

Can I ask what is involved in the fitting of the crown wheel and pinion ,the reason I ask as I would like one of these boxes but the final drives available fron quaife are no good for my 13 inch wheels and before I buy one I need to find someone to make a final drive to my spec ,but don't know what is involved and indeed wether it is even possible to get one made

The fitting of the crown-wheel is simple, just needs to be bolted to the diff and and then the diff fitted into the casing, about 20 minutes work, i think you would struggle to get one made for this as the pinion is part of the layshaft so you need to have that made also, it would be very expensive. Quaife do alternate final drives, 4.360 4.640 4.860 and do have them in stock.

Quaife final drives are all to short I need a 3.7 or similar I wonder wether I could get a final drive made to suit ,I take it the pinion stays the same with whatever final drive you use

Jezz.

You'd have to get the pinion shaft made as well as the Crownwheel. The pinion gear is manufactured as one piece onto the shaft, it's not like the F10/F13 where it's just a small pinion gear.

As Ben says, it would be hugely expensive to get the shaft machined up.

Thanks Colin ,I did suspect that but I am not too up on gearbox,s so was hoping I could just get a crown wheel machined ,do you have to change the whole pinion to do a final drive change ? seems like a major ball ache for a competition gearbox

Yes, total strip down required.

You'd probably be better off looking for an F20 dog 'box, or one of the Hewlands from a Vectra Challenge car, which have more appropriate Final Drive ratios available 'off the shelf'.

Nice bit of kit, GLWS.
BTW, does the chassis leg need modding to fit it? Does it need the Quaife shifter too?

Thanks, i haven't fitted it myself, but have been told they do fit without having to mod the chassis leg as the casing drops low enough to avoid it, in and ideal world for flat out rallying/racing yes but have known people to use them without the Quaife shifter.

No i dont have this anymore as it was sold on eBay 2 weeks ago, it wasnt in a corsa casing and even if it was it wouldnt make any difference and would fit a nova.
