just finished work gave my car a bit of stick beating my mates r19 16v i have a 1.4sri i then realised the normal engine sound was quite a bit louder than normal did it a couple of weekends ago when i drove it bk from southend any ideas was fine in between those times any help would b gratefull cheers lee

define the noise?
we talking a hole in the exhaust or the actual engine revs
might be low on oil or summat if its the actual engine thats noisey

If you beat a R19 1.8 16v in your Sri, then i would say its HIM that needs to be worrying about his engine, that car should be MUCH quicker than yours.

round town not many cars are fast... i had a cally 2.0 8v and a fiesta rst off in my 1.4 nova last night at my local street race event

Racing round town is more down to who has the least regard for the lives of pedestrians than who has a faster car or is a better driver, so its not really relevant.

its from my engine just seems louder when ive drivin it hard but is fine the rest of the time as 4 r19 16v there suppost 2 b about 45bhp more than my car but know 2 people with them can beat 1 and the other is equal up 2 110mph then he edges it

wouldnt race round town aint stupid me and mate finish work at 2am and have 2 go along a duel carrige way on the way home

well think of it like this
that noise was probably either metal to metal contact or the lifters draining
if it was the lifters your fine - they'd pump themselves back up and return to normal
if it was metal to metal contact somewhere (prolly the main bearings) youve prolly taken a good few thousand miles off their life :(
can u describe the noise?
was it a rattly ticking tappet sound or summat else?

i think i have found the problem i have a air leak coming from were my manifold bolts on to the down pipe and its making my heat sheild on my manifold vibrate thanks for ur help
