so anyone have opinions or experiences with either of these cars....or maybe another fast estate (not a Scooby thy are shocking and just as small as the Seat!)

cheers lads

I've no experience of the Saab, although funnily enough I was looking at 9-3's tonight as a potential vehicle to replace my Vito (which failed the MoT on rust), and my Tigra (which is too small for towing things).

But I did have a T5 estate some years ago, and the running costs were ruinous. So much for Swedish reliability, it was right up there with my 205 GTi 1900 as the most unreliable car I've had - and I've had a lot.

I looked at 9-3's a while back... Piss tiny for an estate :( much like the Alfa 159 estate where the saloon has a bigger boot lol

Did id try a 9-5 2.0lpt version, impressively quick for a mere 150bhp in a bus. They do suffer from sludging in the breather system and this must be kept ontop of otherwise the turbo Goes pop

Interesting, I haven't had a look at one for real yet, so lack of boot space may dismiss that one. Sorry for the off-topic TJ.

I have read up on the sludge issues. drop the sump and give it a good clean by all accounts.

novarally Its hard to know if you just owned a **** abused t5 or not as we all know the car is only as good as its treated. were parts stupid money?

omega 3.2???

neither are as quick but munch as much fuel if not more. the omega mpg from what I have read is crazy!

Stuart

I had at best 25mpg from my auto 3.0 omega lol

tbh I'd look at passat b5.5's
we had a pd130 estate and it was pretty frisky and took so much stuff in it. Also held its own in the lanes etc if you set things up in advance.

Get an Octavia estate tdi for the time being until something better comes up.

You are not going to get anything decent for that money unless it has intergalactic mileage on it.
Old shape Passat's are good as Stuart says. Maybe a Skoda Octavia Estate? What about Jap like a Toyota Avensis D4D?

it dosnt have to be massively good on fuel I can live with 25mpg (as the car is only for the weekends) but it has to be able to justify the fuel consumption

Is is your life really that unfulfilling lol
All estate cars are tedious, even the rs6 is still a dullard audi at the end of the day lol

not really just love the idea of chasing down people that think they are in fast cars...boming past them with two dogs in the boot

estates are cool ask burgo lol

With £1500 'performance car' they will likely be bombing past you sat at the side of the road with a smoking pile of crap!

Buy something sensible that has been looked after, leave it alone and enjoy a half decent car.

i can recommend the saab 95 hot as a mate has one. pretty reliable. he previously had a 9000 2.3 hot and that was bomb proof.

Subaru Forester or Legacy Turbo or Legnum VR4.

You wont get much all else even remotely fast for that kinda budget really.

EDIT: There ya go, Legacy Twin Turbo, 240+ bhp, 4wd £1500

I'd say german rwd estate...... if you want anything vaguely like decent reliability..... and I include omegas in that...

or a decent spec mpv. (except a French one or a zafira.....lol)
