My rebuild 13sb in my nova is breathing heavy :/ dunno if it's normal for breath a bit heavy for a bit as it has new rings and I rehoned the bores,

i did clean out the breather box thing on the back of the block but would it be worth finding a new one would that cure my problem?

The breather filter smokes a bit and go a slight puddle of oil on gearbox that the breathers sat above,

been told by engine builder I should be running it on full mineral running in oil to bed rings in not the gm 10w40 semi stuff I have been running it on

yeah mineral oil is best like at first.
I know theyre not exactly pin point accurate but whats your oil pressure gauge saying?

Make sure all the breather pipes aren't kinked, I had issues due to a kinked pipe.

Mineral oil is preferable for running in.

You did offset all the rings? i.e. all the gaps aren't in a line

Oil level OK, not too high?

Oil level bang on mark

No kinks and pressure sits between 1/4 and 1/2 on idle and between 3/4 and full when driving along

How did you clean the breather?
Did you fit the rings correctly as Royston mentioned?

My dad fitted the rings using a guide online double and triple checking all the gaps where correctly spaced apart and just cleaned it in parts washer at work

Is it improving as mileage is building? i.e. breathing reduced

In the absence of anything else might be worth performing an oil change an using mineral oil 10W 40.

Synthentic oil is known to be too slippy for components to bed in, so semi synthetic must be inbetween that and mineral oil.

Ive ordered some millers proper mineral running in oil but got some mineral oil in tesco earlier to replace the oil in there till the millers turn up and it's stayed about the same
