Hi as some of you have probably already seen i have just finished putting a 20xe engine with weber in my sri shell, i have only driven the car a few times since doing so but have noticed a knock on the front suspension, it did have a bit of a knock before but now its a proper clunk at first i thought it was either a shocker or a roll bar as it sounds like what a droplink does on a modern car when they have gone, so i have changed the coilovers for new items as the second hand ones i bought were leaking oil anyway, but the knock is still there so today i thought ill take the roll bar off as i no a lot of you run without them anyway, but when i put it on the ramp i spotted what it was that is knocking and wondered if anyone has had the same thing and how you went around curing it.
its something i never noticed on the 2 post ramp as the suspension was hanging but on the 4 post this is what i have found.

Gearbox hitting tie bar is common just lower the front bracket 20 mm and it will sort it plus take off the arb blocks then you can weld Gte tie bar bracket rear hole up and extend it with steel then re drill it higher up put a 20 mm spacer inder the crossmember and longer bolts

Cheers... When I was doing the conversion I had a look at a few that had been done and most had lowered the roll bar like I have but then there was a few that had used the same blocks but had put them under the tie bar bracket and I assumed it was to get the same affect of missing the exhaust but Looking back now I'm guessing that they were probably to stop this gearbox fouling issue.

You will need new blocks

You'll need to lower your tie bar brackets at the cross member end

did you chop off the lug from the gearbox casing?

I haven't chopped any lugs off the casing mowgli , do you mean where it is knocking on the tie bar? As before I posted the thread I was looking at that thinking shall I get the die grinder and grind it flat and then wind the suspension up a bit higher as it could go a bit higher to be fair. But wasn't sure if a) the box would leak or b) wether it would be enough to cure it anyway.
On the plus side though It is deffinately that which is knocking because I cut a piece of hose and warped it round the bar and cable tied it on just to see if it knocks still and it doesn't :)
