Ive the same problem pal tried swapping the guage still nothing. Looking like the sender is knackered will have to remove it from the tank and see.

simply short the wire out off the sender to earth & see if the gauge is doing anything before ripping things out.

Maybe try the earth on it, run another wire from your clocks to the sender you may have a dodgy connection. Have you tried another sender at all though??

Not tried another sender can't get hold of one I will look into the earth aswell.

Looking at mine, the pipe is fitted to the top, and the wire plug if u were plugging it in u would push it up, hope helps

Best way to find out whether it is a sender or not is get hold of a cheap resistance meter or multi meter.

disconect the two leads. Put the meter on ohms and take the reading. If tank full it should read 40 ohms and if empty the reading should be 240. Hence half tank will be about 140.
i changed mine the other week for a brand new one and took the trouble to get the readings before I fitted it.
a cheap multimeter will save loads of messing about , not to mention the frustration!

Hey thanks will check with multi meter later and report back where did you get your new one from mate and how much ?

Off eBay about 6 months ago. Was watching for one for ages.
Good luck finding one as they are very scarce.
At least if you find the sender not working you are getting somewhere....

Yeah been looking and put a wanted post up but nothing as yet will have a play with multi meter and see what it says

Just checked mine and I'm getting 40 ohms full half is 108 and empty is 282 so it should give me some kind of reading on gaugue ?

Sounds like it is working.....make sure you have good earth.

Which pin is earth could I use a power probe to give it an earth ?

just put gauge back in tank and checked wire got good earth on brown wire and a weak live on blue wire when I give blue wire an earth gauge shows full but still not working could it still be a sender problem as its sending a reading to gauge when I short it.

Something is not right obviously. To be sue its the sender you would need to try a known working one.
what voltage do you have across the terminals? You say weak live?

When I say weak live the power proble led was dull when on live usually it's a bright red will check what power I have with multi meter.

Should be around 12 volt dc on the black and blue wire down to earth brown wire.

Just been looking at my spare set.it seems there is a resistor attached to the back of the fuel gauge. It says 55 and 75. Measured it free from the clocks and it is 125 ohms which is kind of what I expected.
now when installed you should get the 2 other readings across the terminals.http://i1331.photobucket.com/albums/w599/jonesfach/f2f84fbe78912c15dfab4f9856de6981_zps4de0ac46.jpg
55 ohms in the above case

and 70 ohms in this case.
please disconnect your battery to test otherwise you may blow up something......

Looking from behind and from below it should look like this....
the earth cable should be about 3 o clock and the positive cable about 1 o clock
